The Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) digital credential is a verified digital representation of your CBN certification issued by the CBN Certification Program of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS).
The CBN credential recognizes registered nurses who have met established eligibility requirements and demonstrated the knowledge required for specialty practice in metabolic and bariatric nursing.

Your CBN Certification and Digital Credential
What does the CBN digital credential verify?
The CBN digital credential allows others to verify that you earned the Certified Bariatric Nurse credential from the CBN Certification Program of the ASMBS. It also provides information about the certification, including its earning criteria, issuing organization, and current validity period.

Does the CBN digital credential expire?
Yes. The expiration date of your CBN digital credential corresponds with the expiration date of your CBN certification. CBN certification must be maintained in accordance with ASMBS recertification requirements. Accepting or maintaining your digital credential through Credly does not replace the CBN recertification process. Learn about CBN Recertification.
What happens to my digital credential when I recertify?
When your CBN recertification is approved, ASMBS will update your certification records, and your digital credential will reflect your renewed certification period. You do not need to complete a separate recertification process through Credly.
What happens if my CBN certification expires?
If your CBN certification expires, your digital credential will reflect that the certification is no longer current. The CBN digital credential should not be represented or shared in a manner that suggests you hold an active CBN certification after your certification has expired.
What happens if my CBN certification is reinstated?
If your CBN certification is reinstated in accordance with ASMBS requirements, your digital credential will reflect your current certification status.
Does receiving the digital badge give me permission to use the CBN designation?
No. The digital badge does not independently grant the right to use the CBN designation. Authorization to use the CBN designation is based on your CBN certification status and remains subject to CBN Certification Program requirements governing use of the CBN credential.
