The Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) Certification Program of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the accrediting body of the Institute for Credentialing Excellence (I.C.E.).
NCCA accreditation provides independent, third-party validation that the CBN Certification Program meets established standards for quality and rigor in professional certification.

What Is NCCA Accreditation?
The National Commission for Certifying Agencies accredits certification programs that demonstrate compliance with the NCCA Standards for the Accreditation of Certification Programs. NCCA has established standards for professional certification programs since 1977.

NCCA Accreditation and Magnet Recognition
NCCA accreditation has additional relevance for CBN certificants and employers participating in the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program.
Beginning January 1, 2024, professional board certifications included in the Magnet Demographic Data Collection Tool (DDCT) must be accredited by a recognized accrediting organization, including NCCA.
Following CBN’s NCCA accreditation, the CBN Certification Program has requested review for inclusion in the Magnet DDCT accepted certifications list. This page will be updated when that review is complete.
