ASMBS Pathway Program

Pathway Program Overview:

On behalf of the Health Equity committee, we present the Pathway Program which is designed to inspire and empower students from underrepresented and distinguished high schools interested in STEM careers by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of obesity treatment and community healthcare. The program is run during the ASMBS Annual Meeting. Through dynamic panel discussions, students will engage with diverse healthcare professionals who share their career journeys, challenges, and opportunities in treating obesity. These discussions will cover obesity treatment strategies, STEM career paths, and ways to improve community healthcare, offering students the knowledge and inspiration to make a meaningful impact.

The program also offers networking opportunities during breakfast, lunch, and Q&A sessions, where students can connect with healthcare leaders, share experiences, and discuss challenges and opportunities in the field of obesity treatment. These interactions are intended to build connections, foster mentorship, and support the exploration of future STEM-related career paths.

In the Networking Skills Lab, students will participate in hands-on experiences with industry partners in the exhibit hall. This immersive environment allows them to explore cutting-edge obesity treatment strategies and take part in live demonstrations, providing insights into the latest advancements in healthcare and the multidisciplinary roles involved in patient care.

Each year, in alignment with the location of the ASMBS Annual Meeting, we partner with local programs. This collaboration allows us to provide students with unique, hands-on learning experiences and opportunities to engage with local experts, healthcare providers, and community leaders. By working closely with these local programs, we ensure that students not only gain insights into obesity treatment but also have the chance to understand how these strategies are implemented and adapted in real-world, community-based settings. This partnership deepens their understanding of the multifaceted nature of obesity care and helps them explore diverse career paths, as they learn directly from the professionals who are at the forefront of addressing obesity.

Our Vision

The Pathway Program is committed to inspiring and empowering high school students, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, with a deeper understanding of obesity treatment and community healthcare.

By connecting students with passionate healthcare professionals, offering immersive hands-on experiences, and highlighting real-world career paths in STEM and medicine, we aim to spark curiosity, foster mentorship, and cultivate the next generation of healthcare leaders.

Together, we’re building pathways toward healthier communities, and brighter futures.
