We are happy to announce that the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is now accepting new applications for the designations of Fellow and International Fellow of the ASMBS (FASMBS/IFASMBS/SFASMBS). The designation descriptions and basic criteria are below:
In order to ensure all current requirements are met, all members who previously held these designations must re-apply. In addition, all prior designations were valid for two years and have expired.
Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery
Designation of Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery may be bestowed upon any Regular Member (FASMBS) in good standing in the ASMBS for a minimum of two years. The member must also currently practice in an American College of Surgeons (ACS) accredited center which submits data to Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) or an approved outcomes data reporting program. The Designation as a “Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery” will be for a period of three years. Designation may be renewed for additional three year terms contingent on the Member’s continued participation in an approved outcomes data reporting program such as MBSAQIP. The designation may be withdrawn prior to the end of the three year term in the event the Member’s participation in an approved outcomes data reporting program terminates, or in the event the Member is found to have falsified data. International Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery
Designation of International Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery may be bestowed upon any International Member in good standing in the ASMBS for two years. The member must also currently practice in a facility currently participating as an International MBSAQIP Data Collection Center or an approved outcomes data reporting program. Designation as a “International Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery” will be for a period of three years. The designation may be renewed for additional three year terms contingent on the Member’s continued participation in an approved outcomes data reporting program such as MBSAQIP. Senior Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery
Members who are/were designated Fellows at the time of their retirement from clinical practice may apply for designation as a Senior Fellow. Retired Senior Member Fellows will receive exemption to operative and MBSAQIP participation requirements and will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
