Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon

The Department of Surgery at the MetroHealth System, a major teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, is seeking a full-time academic Bariatric and Metabolic Surgeon at the Assistant Professor Level to join our Bariatric Surgery Program. You will work under the direction and mentorship of the Program Director, Sergio Bardaro, MD, FACS, FASMBS, DABS-FPMBS.

We are searching for an individual with a passion and empathy for caring for patients suffering from morbid obesity. Candidates should have the appropriate comprehensive skill set, a strong track record of delivering high-quality care, expertise in minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy, and commitment to management of obesity and metabolic disease using a multi-disciplinary team approach.

Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeon

The Chicago Institute of Advanced Surgery is seeking a surgeon with metabolic and bariatric fellowship training to join its multi specialty surgical practice. The practice is located in the heart of Chicago and consists of general surgeons with various fellowship training in bariatric, foregut, colon and rectal surgery, HPB, and other specialties. The practice is contracted with different community hospitals and healthcare systems across the greater Chicago area. We are a private practice group with all the advantages of independence. The practice has a very strong academic presence locally and nationally, and also a track record working with the FDA on different trials.

The majority of our hospitals are covered by general surgery residents. The Chicago Institute of advanced surgery is very unique in having its own fully accredited fellowship in both bariatric and advanced GI MIS surgery. In 2023, the fellowship counsel granted us a fully accredited second fellowship spot. The senior surgeon, Dr. Rami Lutfi, is heavily involved in ASMBS, which will help the new surgeon to grow in the metabolic surgery society and provide mentorship, if desired or needed.

This exciting opportunity will allow the surgeon to step into a “ready-to-go” metabolic and bariatric surgery practice. The practice currently performs over 400 cases yearly of all types of metabolic and foregut procedures. In addition, bariatric surgeons perform basic endoscopy on their own patients. Well established Private practice in West Michigan has an opportunity for Bariatric/General Surgeon.  

Dr. Brian Gluck and Life Without Limits Team is seeking a skilled, fellowship trained Bariatric Surgeon to join the team. As a Bariatric Surgeon, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive care to patients with obesity-related health conditions. You will work closely with Dr. Brian Gluck, physician extenders and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality surgical interventions and post-operative care.

The metabolic and bariatric surgery program in Muskegon has performed more than 7000 MBS procedures since the program began in December 2002 and has been MBSAQIP accredited since 2006 and has maintained a volume 300-400 primary bariatric procedures annually, as a single surgeon practice, for the last 20 years.  Aside from primary bariatric procedures, the practice also performs revisional bariatric surgery, endoscopy and general surgery.  As an alternative to surgery, the Life Without Limits program also provides and promotes Non-surgical Medical Weight Management options.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Perform bariatric surgical procedures, including gastric bypass, gastric sleeve, and laparoscopic surgery.
2. Evaluate patients for surgical candidacy and develop personalized treatment plans.
3. Provide pre-operative and post-operative care to patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
4. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care for patients.
5. Participate in research projects and contribute to advancements in bariatric surgery.
6. Educate patients on lifestyle changes, dietary guidelines, and post-operative care instructions.
7. Maintain accurate medical records and documentation of patient care.

Qualifications:
1. Medical degree from an accredited institution.

The position is 100% at Health and Hospitals-Bellevue Hospital, located at 462 First Avenue, adjacent to the NYU Medical Center Complex (550 First Avenue) . Bellevue Hospital is the oldest public hospital in the United States and is the largest safety-net hospital in NYC.


The Bellevue Hospital Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program has been MBSAQIP accredited since 2010 and currently performs approximately 3000 procedures annually. The existing group of surgeons also performs MIS cases for foregut disease (Nissen/Heller, etc.), hernias (including robotic TAPP/TAR, eTEP), benign colon disease and choledocholithiasis (lap common duct explorations). There is an opportunity to expand the MIS cases by strengthening the collaborations/referrals among the other 10 hospitals in the H&H network. Bariatric Fellowship

Legacy Health, Portland, OR

The Legacy Bariatric Surgery Fellowship is a twelve-month program focusing on the field of Bariatric Surgery. This is primarily a clinical laparoscopic bariatric surgery fellowship. The bariatric surgeons are experienced in laparoscopic bariatric surgery and perform a large volume of a variety of procedures, including gastric bypass, lap-band revisions, sleeve gastrectomy, interventional endoscopy and other revisional procedures. The program performs some robotic assisted surgery. The program is involved in evaluating novel endoscopic devices. The program focuses on acquisition of advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgical skills and clinical research. Fellows will participate in ongoing research projects, and initiate their own projects. Legacy has institutional support for clinical research with existing research coordinators and other infrastructure. Legacy Good Samaritan Hospital is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence. There are opportunities for presentation at scientific meetings and publication. Fellows rotate with other advanced laparoscopic surgeons at Providence Portland Hospital (Kevin Reavis, Daniel Davila-Bradley, Missy DeSouza) whose practices focus on laparoscopic foregut and bariatric surgery. Fellows are given the option of attending several courses for laparoscopic fellows, and travel funding for presentations at meetings is provided.

Education:
Must be a graduate of a medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education, the American Association of Colleges of Podiatric Medicine or the American Osteopathic Association, or a graduate of a medical school recognized by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates.

Must have completed an accredited residency-training program in a specialty directly related to the fellowship-training program.

Licensure:
Must hold a regular State Medical License or Dental License for the applicable state, or a temporary certification or registration, to practice medicine or dentistry in the applicable state in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations.

Metabolic Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer

The Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer is responsible for the collection and submission of accurate, complete, and timely data to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Data Registry Platform. This is accomplished through high-quality data compilation, documentation, and entry of all metabolic and bariatric procedures performed at Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital into the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program Data Registry Platform. You will work closely with the members of the metabolic and bariatric and general surgery departments to find opportunities for clinical quality improvement and other special projects that may be identified.

What you’ll be doing in this role:

  • Utilize software applications for data collection and analysis. Identify streamlining and process improvement opportunities in the data collection process.
  • Track health information through various resources such as electronic medical records, surgery clinics, death index, direct patient contact, accounts payable, and legal counsel.
  • Responsible for annual Bariatric Clinic Quality Assurance Performance Improvement projects, implementing, reviewing and presenting at CSMDRH quality council committee.
  • Demonstrate appropriate utilization of resources necessary to obtain valid, reliable data for entry into the program.
  • Participate in data compilation for audits and reaccreditation site visits.
  • Serve as an educational resource on the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program Data Registry Platform for internal and external audiences by developing educational material and delivering presentations.
  • Establish and maintain a good working relationship within the department, surgery and medicine, nursing, medical records, information systems departments and with individual bariatric surgeons’ offices.
  • Address data by reformatting, editing and joining multiple/various data sets.
  • Collect preoperative, intra-operative, 30-day postoperative, and long-tern (six month and annual thereafter) follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of Cedars-Sinai Marina del Rey Hospital electronic medical record system and through a coordinated effort with individual surgeon office staff.

Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Nursing, preferred
  • Doctorate Degree (Foreign Medical Graduate), strongly preferred

Experience:

  • Five (5) years of experience in one of the following areas: hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research or quality assurance.
  • Two (2) years of experience in clinic chart review and abstraction.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Dietitian to support the Center for Weight Loss Surgery onsite, 32 hours per week. The desired schedule is Tuesday through Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm.

This Dietitian will be responsible for the nutritional management of patients who are planning for bariatric surgery, as well as patients who have previously undergone bariatric surgery. Patient visits will be a combination of in-person and virtual and include initial nutrition assessments, follow-ups, nutrition education, 1on1s, and group therapy. Also responsible for serving as a resource and subject matter expert in the area of bariatric surgery for the hospital and community.
