Responsibilities:

  • Serve as resource, provide support, education, coordination of services and other assistance as needed to patients, enabling them to become active participants in healthcare decisions.
  • Guide patients through healthcare system & ensure patients & members are able to access services. Facilitate process to ensure quality support groups are available to participants.
  • Advise patients of service costs & alternative sources of funding. Verify insurance of patients & work w/health insurance providers to determine coverage & benefit limits.
  • Submit requests for & obtain procedure authorizations & pre-certifications from health insurance providers for patients.
  • Collaborate w/patients, families, healthcare providers & other internal staff to address a wide variety of patient health insurance matters. Serve as liaison w/internal staff, insurance companies, mental health agencies & other agencies to process and monitor dept. contracts.
  • Assist w/accreditation process of becoming a Bariatric Center of Excellence & ensuring continuous compliance w/MBSAQIP requirements.
  • Maintain policies/procedures, patient education, outcomes data collection, quality improvement efforts & education of relevant staff in various aspects of the metabolic & bariatric surgery patient w/focus on patient safety.
  • Coordinate surgeries/procedures. Arrange patient pre-testing w/appropriate departments & responsible for obtaining patient medical clearance. Place surgical confirmation calls in advance of scheduled surgery/procedure date. Schedule post-operative follow-up visits w/providers.
  • Coordinate registry activities & run routine reports to facilitate patient tracking.
  • Collaborate w/Community Education for planning, scheduling & facilitating community lectures & support groups. Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree in related field.
  • Patient Navigation Certification preferred.
  • 2 years’ experience in healthcare.
  • 2 years’ experience in obesity disease management & in a weight-loss surgery program preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance verification, scheduling, billing, EMR & medical coding.
  • Working knowledge of medical insurances & various health plans.
  • Experience in data collection.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • General Internet skills & use of a computer for clinical data entry/retrieval.

Seeking an MIS/Bariatric/General Surgeon to join our well-established, high volume general surgery practice with a rapidly expanding bariatric surgery program. Preference will be to general surgeons with fellowship experience in performing bariatric surgery, including roux-en-y gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy, and adjustable gastric banding. Our practice is a five surgeon group with a primary location at MacNeal Hospital, a 430-bed facility located just ten miles outside of Chicago, IL. Additional hospitals include Adventist Hinsdale and LaGrange Hospitals, and Elmhurst Memorial Hospitals. Case mix will be a broad mix of bread and butter general surgery, advanced laparoscopy, endoscopy if desired, and bariatric surgery. Teaching opportunities include working with a team of general surgery residents and medical students from Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine, residents from MacNeal Hospital’s Family Practice and Transitional Year programs, and students from the Ross University School of Medicine. Bariatrician

The Hernried Center for Medical Weight Loss, Sacramento, CA

Comprehensive, team oriented bariatric medical clinic seeking caring and sensitive physician (MD or DO) to provide care for patients undergoing a medically supervised weight loss program. Responsibilities include performing history and physical examinations, interaction with the medical director, review of labs, and brief weekly visits with the patients. Additional responsibilities include pre- and postoperative care of bariatric surgery patients. Practice is fast-paced at times with plenty of opportunity to talk with patients during slower times. Weight loss specific training is provided on the job and is easy and satisfying. Most patients lose weight, eliminate many of their medications and are happy with their weight loss. The Hernried Center providers serve in a specialty role and are not expected to provide full primary care for these patients. Bariatrician

Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Center, Springfield, IL

Memorial Physician Services, in Springfield, IL., is seeking a full-time physician to join the Memorial Weight Loss and Wellness Center and its multidisciplinary provider team. The Center includes an accredited bariatric surgery program, a medical weight loss program, an accredited diabetes education program and outpatient nutrition services. Position Summary

In this role, the applicant will provide pre-operative medical screenings, post-operative follow-up for vertical sleeve gastrectomy and roux-en-y gastric bypass patients, post-operative acute visits, and medical weight-management of non-surgical patients. The applicant will participate in bariatric hospital rounds and hospital consults as needed. Clinic coverage will also include affiliate hospital sites (in Jacksonville and Lincoln, IL). The applicant will also participate in administrative duties, such as collaboration with service line leaders for the oversight of quality and safety, compliance with accreditation guidelines for bariatric surgery programming, participation in multidisciplinary committees, and program expansion initiatives.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine upon hire or completes board certification within two years of appointment.

Position Summary

The Dietitian is a member of the interdisciplinary team working in the bariatric surgery and medicine program. The Dietitian utilizes the care process consistent with their license or certification including initiation of interventions within individual scope of practice. The Dietitian, CDE is responsible to oversee any necessary coordination of the interdisciplinary plan of care and provides for its consistency with the medical treatment plan. The RD incorporates education principles that are current and reflective of the standards of care.
