Committee Mission

The mission of the CBN (Certified Bariatric Nurse) Certification Committee is to enhance and promote the specialty of bariatric nursing care by maintaining the CBN certification program.

What about this committee’s mission is the most important to you? 

“By promoting specialized knowledge and skills for nurses working with this patient population, the committee’s mission has contributed to enhanced patient outcomes and safety.

How has being part of this committee benefitted you professionally or even personally?

“Being part of the Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) Committee has clearly been a rewarding experience for me both personally and professionally. Personally, I’ve had the opportunity to connect with a group of dedicated and passionate Registered Nurses who share a deep commitment to the specialty of metabolic and bariatric surgery. This network provides a sense of camaraderie and support, as we are all focused on improving patient care and advancing the profession of nursing. Professionally, my involvement with the committee has expanded my understanding of the significance of certifications and accreditation. By gaining insight into these processes, I have developed a greater appreciation for the role in enhancing patient safety and satisfaction in metabolic and bariatric surgery. This increased awareness allows me to advocate for higher standards of care and be a more effective nurse leader within the specialty of metabolic and bariatric surgery. The knowledge I have gained is invaluable not only to my own growth but also to the improvement of patient outcomes and overall quality of care in my practice.”

“The development and maintenance of the Certified Bariatric Nurse (CBN) certification for nearly two decades is truly an impressive accomplishment. This certification has become a cornerstone for elevating the standard of care for metabolic and bariatric surgery patients, and its sustained success over 20 years speaks volumes about the hard work and dedication that has gone into its creation and continuous improvement. The CBN certification is not just a reflection of individual efforts but of a collective commitment to advancing the field of bariatric nursing. The tireless dedication of everyone involved—working together to refine the certification, ensure its relevance, and maintain its standards over time—has undoubtedly helped countless nurses elevate their practice and, most importantly, contributed to better care for bariatric patients.
