Raza M Shariff, MD, FACS, FASMBS is an American Board certified general surgeon and an Attending Surgeon; Advanced Laparoscopy, Bariatric and Foregut Surgery, at Backus Hospital in Norwich, Connecticut. Backus Hospital, a member of the Hartford Healthcare Sysytem, is a fully accredited ACS-MBSAQIP comprehensive center for bariatric surgery Dr.Shariff previously served as the Director of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery program at Concord Hospital in Laconia, New Hampshire and Medical Director of the Weight Institute of New Hampshire (WINH.) He helped establish the bariatric surgery program in Laconia after completing his fellowship in Minimally Invasive Bariatric and General Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr.Shariff has expertise in minimally invasive foregut surgery, including surgery for reflux/heartburn and complex hiatal hernias, as well as endoscopy and esophageal ph monitoring. He also performs advanced laparoscopic procedures such as colon resection, rectopexy, congenital diaphragmatic hernia repair and adrenalectomy. He has served as the Chairperson of the Department of Surgery at Concord Hospital - Laconia, Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of New England College of Medicine, and as the President of the New Hampshire chapter of the American College of Surgeons.
