Qualifications:
•Master’s degree in Social Work from an accredited program/university required
•Prior experience working with adults in a mental health setting required
•Prior hospital/medical setting experience required
•Prior Cognitive Behavioral Therapy experience required
•Prior experience utilizing evidence-based treatments to address eating and weight issues required

Preferred Experience:
•Prior experience in a bariatric setting highly desirable

Unit Summary:
Welcome to the Vanderbilt Weight Loss Center. The clinic is located at Vanderbilt Health at One Hundred Oaks, 719 Thompson Lane Suite 22000 Nashville, TN 37204. We provide both medical and surgical weight loss for the adult population. We are looking for highly motivated individuals that would like to join a growing clinic.

Our excellent, patient centered care is directed and/or delivered by a collaborative team made up of Attending Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Dietitians and Psychologist’s, Exercise physiologist and program coordinator. The Leadership Team is comprised of a Medical Director, a Clinic Manager, an Administrative Manager, a Charge Nurse and an Administrative Assistant. Clinic staff members include Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Medical Assistants, and Patient Services Representatives. The University of Washington-Valley Medical Center is seeking a talented and ambitious Rn Care Manager for a comprehensive, obesity and metabolic treatment program. Our multidisciplinary team will provide medical, nutritional, psychological, physical training, and surgical treatment. Duties and responsibilities:

· Assesses and monitors the continuity of care and expedites and coordinates the delivery of services to facilitate a patient’s progress throughout the continuum of care, from point of first interest or referral, through the qualification period, the surgery process, post-op care, and post discharge to achieve desired quality outcomes. Coordinates insurance approval for medical and surgical care.
· Assists in administrative functions and the development and implementation of patient care protocols.
· Assists in the identification and reporting of quality issues, and in the development of a performance plan for the Bariatric Surgery Program to assess and improve the quality and efficiency of the program including but not limited to quality assessment, utilization review, risk management, and infection control. · Maintains MBSAQIP data for COE certification and re-certification.
· Works in conjunction with and assists leadership and clinical nurse specialists in developing curriculum and providing in-service education for Medical Staff and employees regarding the special needs of Bariatric patients. (Sensitivity training, lift & transfer techniques, complications of Bariatric surgery, post-op care psychosocial needs etc.).
· Coordinates and participates in monthly patient education classes.
· Coordinates and participates in monthly Support Groups. Collaborates with the patient support group facilitator and facilitates meetings as necessary in the absence of a facilitator.

Additional Requirements:

· Current Washington State Registered Nurse license.
· BSN preferred.
· Three to five years of clinical experience, management experience, or quality management, case management or discharge planning experience.
· Experience in program development and insurance approvals.
· Experience in obtaining and/or recertifying Bariatric Center of Excellence status a major asset.
· Current American Heart Association BLS/CPR for Health Care Providers certification

POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for the development of data review and information dissemination related to patient safety and quality. The Quality Analyst Responsible for identification and performance improvement projects related to patient safety and quality. The Quality Analyst will also function as the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Clinical Reviewer (MBSCR). The MBSCR is responsible for collecting and submitting reliable data to the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) Data Registry and maintaining the local bariatric database for follow up and research purposes. This task is done by compiling data and documenting on 100% of the bariatric surgery patients at Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Identification and facilitation of performance improvement projects
  • Regulatory data collection and collation of data. Trending and analysis of all data reviewed in the Quality Dept.
  • Policy and Procedure On-site Administrator (OSA) duties
  • Analyze Core Measures Abstract Data and Report via Excel Monthly. Submit Data to Midas for Credentialing STATTIT
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills using data presentations in Power Point. Familiar with databases, EXCEL graphs, pivot tables and data mining
  • Identifies 100 percent of bariatric surgery patients for inclusion in MBSAQIP data registry and bariatric data base.
  • Collects preoperative, intraoperative, 30-day postoperative, 6-month postoperative, 1 year and annual thereafter follow-up data components for the bariatric surgery program through effective utilization of the hospital and surgeon’s office medical record system.
  • Collects and submits data in an accurate and timely manner
  • MBSCRs must successfully complete the initial training modules with a score of 90% or higher prior to receiving access and beginning data collection to the MBSAQIP Data Registry Platform.
  • Attends regular morbidity and mortality conferences to ensure reliable data collection of postoperative occurrences.
  • Participates in the compilation of data for MBSAQIP audits and reaccreditation site visits.
  • Serves as an expert on the Bariatric Data Registry Platform.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education and Licensure Required
  • Bachelor’s DegreeRegistered Nurse (RN)
  • Maintenance of MBSCR Certification is required and is based upon successful completion of initial online training, participation in ongoing educational webinars, educational questions, satisfactory completion of a yearly certifying exam, and compliance with data audits.

2019 MIS Fellow

This is a clinical hands on one-year fellowship program comprising a broad range of Bariatric, Minimally Invasive, Endoscopic and Cosmetic Surgical Procedures. We are proud to offer the first MIS Fellowship program in West Virginia. This program offers the fellow a wide variety of procedures and is run through a private practice setting. The fellow will have the advantage of not having residents or other fellows to compete over cases. We expect the fellow to act as a junior staff in the practice. The program provides comprehensive advanced training in the management of obesity including pre, intra and postoperative care. The curriculum also provides a broad, high volume clinical practice in non-Bariatric Laparoscopic, Cosmetic and Body Contouring surgeries. Clinical research, academic and administrative activities are strongly emphasized.

The fellowship curriculum enables the fellow to:

  • Obtain experience in the pre-operative workup of surgical candidates with focus on decision making, procedure selection and the practice of evidence-based medicine.
  • Acquire advanced laparoscopic operative skills.
  • Manage the patients in and out of the hospital.
  • Establish continuity of care by evaluating the patients in a clinic setting pre and postoperatively.
  • Submit papers for publication in peer reviewed journals and present in regional / national meetings
  • The fellow will be expected to acquire full spectrum of managing the Bariatric patient including Body Contouring Cosmetic procedures after weight loss

Surgical experience: This is a hand on training program where the fellow is expected to perform high volume of cases including:

  • Laparoscopic primary Bariatric procedures (Lap Band, Sleeve, Roux-Y Gastric Bypass)
  • Revisional Bariatric surgeries
  • Endoscopic Gastric Balloon
  • Foregut procedures, including laparoscopic hiatal hernia repair with different fundoplications (Nissen, Dor, Toupet), Heller myotomy and revisional foregut procedures.
  • Interpretation of pH monitoring and esophageal motility studies for pre-operative work up of esophageal motility disorders, hiatal hernia, GERD
  • High volume endoscopy (upper and lower) including diagnostic and therapeutic procedures (balloon dilation, submucosal injection, tattooing, endoscopic stenting, biopsy, polypectomy)
  • Laparoscopic colon resection
  • Laparoscopic abdominal wall hernia repair
  • Basic laparoscopy
  • The fellow will also learn post Bariatric Body Contouring including chest lift, thigh lift, abdominoplasty, brachioplasty.
  • The fellow will learn injectables (e.g. Botox, dermal fillers)
  • The fellow will be able to learn other Cosmetic procedures
  • The fellow will learn office based procedures including endoscopy, Cosmeric Surgeries, airway management, IV sedation

There are no residents involved in the program.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
· Assists in administrative functions and the development and implementation of patient care protocols, clinical pathways and in updating patient policies and procedures for care of Bariatric surgery patients.
· Assesses and monitors the continuity of care and expedites and coordinates the delivery of services to facilitate a patient’s progress throughout the continuum of care, from point of first interest, through the qualification period, the surgery process, post-op care, and post discharge to achieve desired quality outcomes.
· Assists in the identification and reporting of quality issues, and in the development of a performance improvement plan for the Bariatric Surgery Program to assess and improve the quality and efficiency of the program including but not limited to quality assessment, utilization review, risk management, and infection control. Identifies appropriate indicators to monitor and track and in conjunction with marketing, tracks patient data advertising campaigns, and patient referral outcomes.
· Works in conjunction with and assists leadership and clinical nurse specialists in developing curriculum and providing in-service education for Medical Staff and employees regarding the special needs of Bariatric patients. (Sensitivity training, lift & transfer techniques, complications of Bariatric surgery, post-op care psychosocial needs etc.).
· Coordinates and participates in monthly informational seminars.
· Coordinates and participates in monthly Support Groups. Collaborates with the patient support group facilitator and facilitates meetings as necessary in the absence of a facilitator.

Additional Requirements:
Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
BSN required.
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in New Jersey . Three to five years of clinical experience, management experience, or quality management, case management or discharge planning experience . Experience in Bariatrics highly preferred . Experience in program development, insurance and marketing experience preferred in order to lead and direct an interdisciplinary work group.

Must be bilingual (English/Spanish) .
