Other opportunities are available in broader aspects of health psychology including pre-surgical evaluations and psychological interventions within the Digestive Disease Institute. There is a strong educational component to the position, and the successful applicant will play a role in the supervision of postdoctoral fellows and graduate students’ research and clinical training. This psychologist will join an interdisciplinary team in our Surgical Weight Loss program (http://www.shmg.org/bariatrics). We are seeking a Massachusetts-licensed (or license-eligible) clinical psychologist with a specialization in obesity and related disorders and health psychology for a staff position at the MGH Weight Center. Our patient population is seen on an outpatient basis, and consists of adults and children/adolescents seeking assessment, consultation, and treatment for obesity and related medical and psychosocial comorbidities. The position is a full-time clinical position. Clinical responsibilities will include conducting initial assessments, treatment planning, delivering time-limited individual and group interventions, leading informational orientations for prospective Weight Center patients. Clinical work at the MGH Weight Center involves close collaboration with other members of the Weight Center’s multidisciplinary team (obesity medicine physicians, surgeons, dietitians, nurse practitioner, other clinical investigators). The population is largely an adult population, but expertise/experience with children and/or adolescence is highly desirable. The Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking a clinical research fellow to start July 1, 2018 for a 12 month period. The ideal candidate should have completed at least a year of dedicated research curriculum in surgery and have two or more peer-reviewed publications. The applicant should have a strong clinical interest in diseases of the foregut, as research encompasses disease management either endoscopically, laparoscopically, robotically, or a hybrid. The department works closely with the Department of Bariatric Surgery as well as system-wide including over 40 hospitals in the North Texas area, providing a unique work experience at the hospital and system level of one of the largest healthcare systems in the United States. The fellow will be working with several attending surgeons, a clinical research coordinator, several research assistants, clinical fellows, medical students, and surgery residents. The fellow will conduct his/her own research as well as assist in the department’s ongoing research and data collection. The fellow will also be expected to organize and gain approval for research within the division by completing IRB protocols, manage and maintain data registries, participate in research meetings, write and submit manuscripts, and present and attend local and national society meetings. UTHealth Center for Obesity Medicine and Metabolic Performance invites applications for our comprehensive Clinical Fellowship in Obesity Medicine. This one-year fellowship, the fifth in the nation, is designed for current residents or recent graduates of internal medicine, family medicine, or endocrinology training programs who wish to obtain rigorous, comprehensive subspecialty training in the area of Obesity Medicine. We are currently recruiting fellows seeking to begin the fellowship program on August 1, 2019. The deadline is October 1, 2018 for 2019 applicants.
This fellowship has been designed to provide trainees with expertise and clinical experience in the emerging field of Obesity Medicine, with a primary focus on the evaluation and management of patients with obesity. Fellows will learn how to treat obesity through intensive lifestyle intervention, nutritional, behavioral, pharmacological and surgical means, as well as how to address the comorbidities of this disorder most effectively. Trainees who complete this fellowship program will be prepared to pursue clinical and/or academic careers focused in obesity medicine and to become leaders in this emerging discipline.
Fellowship training in Obesity Medicine will occur over 1 year. Trainees will spend the majority of time in the adult clinical environment training obesity and its comorbidities. Didactic education includes the physiology and pathophysiology of body weight regulation and fundamental knowledge of current treatment and research in the field of Obesity medicine. On completion of fellowship, a fellow will be able to assess a patient with obesity or other metabolic disorders and to determine/facilitate an appropriate treatment plan. Trainees will understand and utilize standard and innovative approaches to the treatment of obesity, including body composition and metabolic measurement, novel combination therapies, surgical and medical integration of care, and outcomes related research and/or new and emerging treatment trials. They will be able to complete a full evaluation for patients with indications for obesity treatment both medically, surgically, and the med/surg combination and provide comprehensive care that leads to disease improvement.
Fellows will also develop the skills to be a competent educators in Obesity Medicine for medical students, residents, and endocrinology fellows rotating in the center. Outcomes and standard of care research can be completed under the guidance of a member of the program faculty and collaborating departments.
This fellowship is available to physicians who will have completed an accredited residency program in internal medicine, family medicine, or endocrinology. Other backgrounds considered on a case by case basis. Applicants must have completed a United States or Canadian residency program.
