The West Virginia University Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry in the WVU School of Medicine seek a Clinical Health Psychologist (Bariatrics) in Morgantown, WV.

The successful candidate will specialize in Bariatric Psychology and will have a background/training with bariatric populations and expertise in the behavioral treatment of adults with obesity and related metabolic or eating disorders. The successful candidate will have an understanding of the inter-relationships among behavioral, emotional, cognitive, social, and biological components related to bariatric surgery, obesity, and eating behavior. The position will include clinical, teaching/supervision, and research responsibilities.

Regarding clinical duties, the candidate will function as an integral member of the WVU Medicine Medical and Surgical Weight-Loss Center, a MBSAQIP-accredited high-volume bariatric surgery center that offers a comprehensive surgical program to help patients obtain a healthy weight and improve their quality of life. Clinical responsibilities include provision of pre-surgical psychosocial evaluation and intervention for patients pre-and postoperatively; collaboration and consultation with members of the Bariatric Surgery team; and supportive services to the bariatric team with programmatic components. The candidate also has the opportunity to become integrated with the multidisciplinary Medical Weight Management team to provide evaluation, consultation, and treatment to address weight loss goals and health promotion. 3. Performs psychological evaluation for the preoperative bariatric surgery patient and provides a written evaluation and interpretation of data as to the patient’s readiness and ability to make an informed decision regarding surgery.
4. Participates in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings, attends staff and team meetings to discuss patients.
5. Provides individual/family and group psychotherapy and psychological support to postoperative bariatric surgery patients surrounding psychosocial issues/stressors.
6. Addresses psychopathology, body image, self-esteem, social support quality of life. Post-surgical follow-up required at different intervals.
7. Participates in in service activities such as patient care, conferences, Psychology Staff Meetings/In Services, and other departmental training activities.
8. Performs related duties such as quality assurance activities, supervision of psychology intern, representation at administrative meetings, and others as assigned by the Director of Psychological Services
9. Participates in continuing education and/or other appropriate activities to maintain current licensure
10. Performs other duties as required by the Director of the Department of Psychiatry, Chairman of the Department of Surgery or designee.

Virginia Mason is seeking a Weight Management/Obesity Medicine Physician to join our team. This provider will work primarily at one of our North End regional medical centers with one day per week on our main campus in Seattle. There is some allowance for remote work as well. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in obesity and metabolic health management, certification through the American Board of Obesity Medicine or completion of an obesity medicine fellowship, and the ability to collaborate and program build with our bariatric surgeons.

Responsibilities
Diagnosis and multimodal treatment of patients with obesity and related metabolic disorders. This includes behavioral counseling/lifestyle coaching, pharmacotherapy, as well as care coordination with dieticians, bariatric surgeons, physical therapists, mental health providers, etc. Help manage patients with post-bariatric surgery metabolic issues such as weight regain, hypoglycemia, vitamin deficiencies, etc.
Provide full-time outpatient clinical care.
Participate in Center for Weight Management program development activities (e.g. MBSAQIP meetings, care conferences, growth/strategy meetings, etc).

Qualifications
At least 2 years of outpatient clinical experience or pending graduation from an obesity medicine fellowship. BE/BC in internal medicine, primary care, family medicine, or endocrinology.
Certification by American Board of Obesity Medicine (completed or pending)
Active Washington State medical license in good standing prior to start date.
Active DEA certification prior to start date.
Active BLS Certification.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience and/or interest in health services research is preferred but not required.
Proficiency with or ability to become proficient with the Cerner EMR.

Research Fellowship Opportunity in Obesity, Bariatric Surgery, and Health Services Research

The Department of Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine is pleased to announce a funded research fellowship starting in July 2025. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to study the rapidly evolving field of obesity management—both surgical and medical—from both clinical and economic perspectives.

The position is based at NYC Health+Hospitals/Bellevue Hospital, home to one of the highest-volume bariatric programs in the United States, with approximately 3,000 bariatric procedures performed annually as well as a robust medical weight loss program. The program also has strong ties to NYC Health+Hospitals and the NYU Langone Health system, which perform an additional 2,000 bariatric procedures annually.
Fellows receive mentorship from surgical faculty as well as the NYU Population Health Science Scholars Program, with support for a fully funded Master’s degree in Clinical Investigation (MSCI). While the center has a uniquely robust volume in bariatric surgery, interested fellows may also pursue projects in other fields, according to their interests.

Current research areas of emphasis include:
• Comparative effectiveness of bariatric surgery and anti-obesity medications
• Management of weight recurrence and bariatric complications
• Impact of health policy changes on surgical practice and outcomes
• Healthcare disparities among vulnerable populations, including Medicaid, uninsured, and limited English proficiency
• Optimizing bariatric surgery perioperative care pathways

*Facilitate developing and maintaining written protocols for nursing staff related to rapid response and critical patient care.
*Track and document the call schedule for all covering surgeons, ensuring accessibility across departments involved in metabolic and bariatric patient care.
*Participate in and prepare for MBSAQIP site visits, and provide essential program documentation and reporting as required.

Qualifications:
*Licensed Physician Assistant in Massachusetts with experience in metabolic or bariatric patient care is preferred but not required.
*Strong organizational and communication skills to balance both clinical and administrative responsibilities.
*Familiarity with MBSAQIP standards and accreditation processes preferred.
*Experience with EPIC is advantageous.
