The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is seeking a nationally-recognized academic physician to serve as the chair for the Department of Surgery. Highlights:

The ideal candidate will also have experience with clinical trials and/or clinical research, which may include serving as a site principal investigator, contributing to multicenter studies, or integrating research findings into clinical practice. While independent funding is not required, familiarity with research design and a passion for evidence-based practice are essential. Academic orientation is key, and candidates with a history of peer-reviewed publications, presentations at national conferences, or contributions to guidelines and educational materials are highly encouraged to apply.

Mentoring experience is critical, including guiding early-career professionals, obesity medicine fellows, or trainees through clinical, research, or academic development. As a Registered Dietician our team will offer you the ability to work a hybrid clinic model; working remotely with your patients from the convenience of your home office most days (after 6 mos) and periodic days at the campus as needed to meet with your team or see patients in the clinic.

POSITION SUMMARY
This position manages a complex caseload of patients by providing comprehensive nutritional assessments and nutrition-focused physical exams, developing and managing all aspects of appropriate nutrition care plans and monitoring outcomes of plans. Provides patient and family nutrition counseling and education. Develops Nutrition Standards of Practice and Education material in collaboration with peers. Serves as a member of the interdisciplinary Health Care team providing input into patient care policies, programs, quality improvement activities and provides in-service education in areas of expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Must possess knowledge of nutrition and dietetics demonstrated through the completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics. Must be a Registered Dietitian or RD Eligible based on academic and professional requirements as defined by the Commission on Dietetic Registration(CDR) of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. Effective January 1, 2024 CDR requires a minimum of Master’s degree to be eligible to take the registration examination. Must possess RD credentials within 6 months of hire. Must hold current registration through the Commission on Dietetic Registration of The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and be able to maintain ongoing registration verification of registration annually. Maintains current licensure as required by State law.

We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Psychologist to join our bariatric surgery program as a part-time staff psychologist in a surgeon’s office in Ypsilanti, Michigan (Ann Arbor area) with additional part-time remote work available. The ideal candidate will assess, evaluate, and diagnose behavioral, emotional, cognitive, and mental health conditions in patients preparing for surgical weight loss. Using evidence-based methods, the Psychologist will provide psychological evaluations, offer counseling and therapy when appropriate, and determine psychological readiness for bariatric surgery. The role also supports patients in adopting sustainable behavioral and lifestyle changes to enhance physical, emotional, and interpersonal well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
• Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations for bariatric surgery candidates, including clinical interviews, psychological testing, and medical and psychosocial history reviews
• Determine psychological appropriateness for bariatric surgery.
• Possess working knowledge of bariatric surgery procedures, including prerequisites, complications, and post-operative care
• Diagnose psychological, emotional, or behavioral disorders using a combination of interviews, testing, and reference materials
• Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that may include counseling or therapy to promote personal and lifestyle adjustment
• Counsel patients on issues such as stress, coping strategies, substance use, and family dynamics
• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment interventions and revise care plans as necessary
• Assist patients in gaining insight, setting goals, and making behavior changes that support long-term success post-surgery
• Stay current with clinical best practices through professional development and reference materials
Qualifications:
• Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited institution
• Current licensure or license-eligibility as a PsyPact Psychologist.
• Credentialing with major insurance carriers is preferred but not required
• Previous experience with bariatric patients or in behavioral medicine is desirable, but not mandatory
