Academic Bariatric Surgeon

The Division of General Surgery at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, is seeking a full-time, academic Bariatric Surgeon to help launch and lead a Bariatric Surgery Program. Candidates must be board certified by the American Board of Surgery, be fellowship trained in bariatric surgery, and have a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collegially to provide optimal multidisciplinary care for patients. The University of Kentucky offers a competitive salary and a full array of benefits. Rank and compensation will be commensurate with experience and achievement and will include an academic appointment through the University of Kentucky, College of Medicine and an appointment at the on-site Lexington Veterans Affairs Medical Center. The candidate should have a minimum of 4 years of experience in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery and a proven track record of leadership. This position offers an excellent opportunity to collaborate with obesity and diabetes experts ranging from cutting-edge clinical trials to health services research to care for underserved populations.

The candidate will lead the program toward accreditation with the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), which will allow the candidate to establish a high profile leadership role within UK HealthCare. The Division of General Surgery supports a 5-year ACGME-accredited training pathway, in addition to a number of specialized fellowships. With the establishment of a bariatrics program, a bariatric fellowship will be pursued.
