Interest or experience in building group-based protocols for the above service lines as well as biofeedback training consistent with BCIA certification would be of value (though BCIA certification is not required). We are seeking a Health Psychologist with expertise and experience in the behavioral treatment of adults with the chronic disease of obesity and related metabolic and eating disorders to Direct Behavioral Health Services within an exciting and growing multi-disciplinary Weight Loss Surgery Weight Management Center Team. The Department of Surgery at the Yale University School of Medicine seeks two (2) academic bariatric/minimally invasive surgeons to join the Division of Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery during the next 12 months. These faculty positions will be at the Assistant/Associate/Full level depending on experience. The First position will be to direct bariatric, minimally invasive and general surgery at Yale New Haven’s main campus. Main Duties of the Weight Management Behavioral Health Clinician:
- Individual Counseling: 40 hours are designated to carrying a formal caseload of clients, with 28 billable hours per week Complete intakes as scheduled, complete follow-up sessions to assess appropriateness for patients preparing for bariatric surgery and those in the medical weight loss program Communicate and interface with Holyoke Medical Center Weight Management staff regarding client’s progress and assessment.
- Facilitate psycho-educational groups on mindfulness, eating disorders, motivational interviewing, stress eating and emotional eating.
- Work closely with Weight Management staff to support clients struggling with factors that can impact success in the Weight Management Program by developing and implementing behavioral resources such as: weekly therapy groups, monthly workshops and referrals to behavioral health prescribers as needed.
- Potential for adding psycho-educational testing and assessments to stratify risk and effectiveness for bariatric surgery candidates. Qualifications: Graduated from an accredited Master’s Level Program in Counseling or Social Work (LICSW, LMHC, LMFT); Or Graduated from an accredited Ph.D. or Psy.D. Program Ability to quickly build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse group of clients. Completing intakes and follow-up sessions along with some ongoing outpatient therapy. The Program for Obesity, Weight, and Eating Research (POWER) at the Yale School of Medicine is seeking qualified candidates for two Postdoctoral Psychology Associate positions under the supervision of Drs. Valentina Ivezaj and Carlos M. Grilo. New studies supported by NIH grants will provide training and clinical-research opportunities for individuals interested in careers working with obesity, binge eating, and bariatric surgery. Although there is considerable overlap between the two positions, one is structured for individuals interested in clinical practice and program leadership and one for clinical research in academic medical school and health-care systems.
“Clinical” Post-Doctoral Associate Position The “clinical” position is tailored toward careers in clinical practice and program development/leadership in academic medical school and health-care systems. This position will provide ample clinical and supervision hours for independent psychology licensure. Clinical work will involve delivering treatment and administering assessments within the context of NIH-funded randomized controlled trials. More specifically, clinical post-doctoral associates will serve primarily as research clinicians on NIH-funded studies examining behavioral and pharmacologic treatments for binge eating (or loss-of-control eating) among adults including extensive experiences with patients who undergo bariatric surgery. Strong clinical skills and experience in evidence-based treatments and with assessment methods are required. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical, health, or counseling psychology, completed an APA-approved internship, and have experience with patients who seek/undergo bariatric surgery. Positions are full-time for 1-2 years (with strong preference for 2-year positions).
“Clinical-Research” Post-Doctoral Associate Position The clinical-research position is tailored towards careers in clinical research in academic medical school settings. This position will include a combination of clinical work and study coordination with opportunities for writing manuscripts and grants. Clinical work will involve serving as research clinicians on NIH-funded randomized controlled trials treating loss-of-control eating and other eating/weight concerns following bariatric surgery. Clinical training and supervision will focus on assessment and treatment delivery. Postdoctoral associates will have opportunities to work on treatment studies for obesity and binge eating . Clinical-research post-doctoral associates will participate in protocol development and implementation, as well as administrative tasks involved in running an NIH-funded trial. Data from multi-site longitudinal studies with bariatric surgery patients will be available for research projects. Candidates must have a doctoral degree in clinical, health, or counseling psychology, completed an APA-approved internship, and experience with bariatric surgery.
