Psychologist – Medical Weight Loss Center

DESCRIPTION:

Position will provide care to patients by assessing and helping them through their weight loss program. This position is responsible for delivering a full range of direct clinical services to Weight Loss patients, such as psychological testing (if indicated) and individual case consultation with multi-disciplinary team of providers. Functions as a bariatric psychological provider and has a direct impact on the care of our patients as they work towards their goals of weight loss and improved health. Collaborates as a member of inter-disciplinary team (physicians, psychologist, social workers, registered dieticians) for the development and delivery of treatment plans for patients.

Doctoral Degree (Ph. D, Psych D, or Ed. D) in Clinical or Counseling Psychology from an accredited university or professional school. License required. 1+ years of experience preferred. Active membership in professional organizations related to the provision of bariatric behavioral health services is strongly encouraged.

Requires expertise in the assessment and treatment of obese patients and the evaluation of behavioral and psychological variables associated with obesity and weight loss procedures.

Performs psychological evaluations for weight loss patients (i.e. presenting problem, history of presenting problem, psychiatric history, social history, mental status exam) including thorough cognitive and behavioral assessment of patients contemplating weigh loss surgery to ensure quality care consistent with professional/ethical guidelines.

Assess concerns and refer assessment to appropriate resources. Makes psychological treatment recommendations to ensure timeliness of procedures. Develops and implements treatment plans. Assesses patient’s progress and updates treatment plans by formulating recommendations to minimize challenges and improve treatment safety and effectiveness. Addresses behavioral and psychological factors related to weight loss. Makes recommendations and provides relevant information concerning patient care and treatment. Identifies relevant psychosocial factors that may present challenges and impede patient’s progress.

Develop treatment plans that involve teaching self-monitoring behaviors, changing old beliefs, building new coping skills, and making changes to home and work environments to support health goals. Help patients address obstacles to weight loss, identify positive ways to change unhealthy eating habits, and develop new skills and ways of thinking. Leads programs and classes related but not limited to emotional eating disorders, binge eating, coping with stress eating disorders, and develop individualized and group models treatments models that address stress and weight loss treatment options.

Ideal candidate will be board certified in obesity medicine or board certified in IM or FM with anticipation of becoming board certified in obesity medicine. Duties will include medical weight management of the non-surgical patients, pre-op medical screening, post operative follow-up for vertical sleeve gastrectomy and roux–en-y gastric bypass, and post-operative acute visits. No weekends or call and a flexible work schedule is available.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assists in managing the accreditation process and ensuring continuous compliance with MBSAQIP requirements, maintaining relevant policies and procedures, patient education, outcomes data, quality improvement efforts, and education of relevant staff in the various aspects of the bariatric surgery patient with a focus on patient safety.
• Supports the development of written protocols and education of staff detailing the rapid communication and basic response to critical vital signs that is specifically required to minimize delays in the diagnosis and treatment of serious adverse events.
• Serves as the liaison between the hospital and all surgeons performing bariatric surgery.
• Focus on patient wellness and disease prevention.
• Provide health education services and/or counsel patients on lifestyle choices.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
• Risk Management: understand method and reasoning for reporting incidents, completion of hospital incident report form, assists department manager or others in recognizing and reducing risk.
• Service Management: Demonstrates courteous service, and ability to meet special needs or requests, performs duties and a timely manner and provides updates if a delay occurs, communicates with courtesy when interacting with internal and external patients.

Medical Weight Loss Dietician

Preferred Skills:

The primary function of the APRN in Surgical Alliance is to provide comprehensive weight loss management and perioperative surgical care to the assigned specialty patient population, under the supervision of the program Medical Director and the Program Manager.
