Job Summary

Utilizes the Nutrition Care Process to assess outpatient nutrition status. Develop and implement nutrition education plan relative to age, individual requirements and learning style. Develops curriculum for nutrition assessments and classes, and teaches classes as required by the clinical area of care.

Participates in department and hospital quality improvement activities. Uses outcomes to refine practice and maintain quality patient care. Assists to develop, implement and evaluate nutrition care policies based on current trends and quality improvement outcomes.

Coordinates inpatient teaching activities (as related to weight management), objectives, programs and teaching tools with inpatient staff. Acts as a resource to inpatient staff by providing training and updates to maintain quality and consistency in practice.

Education

4 year/ Bachelors Degree in Nutrition and a supervised practice experience in foods and nutrition, or dietetic internship (required)

Licensing/ Certification

Must be credentialed as a Registered Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) and must have active SC Licensed Registered Dietician (SC LLR) (required)

Experience

Experience specific to Bariatric and Metabolic Services: Previous experience working with a multidisciplinary bariatric surgical program is strongly encouraged (preferred)

Division of Minimally Invasive & Bariatric Surgery in New Orleans, LA

Tulane University School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery is currently seeking candidates in the Division of MIS/Bariatric Surgery with a focused commitment to abdominal wall reconstruction, minimally invasive hernia repair, and general surgery. This is a clinical faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank.

Applicants must have an M.D. or equivalent degree. Candidates should have satisfactorily completed a training program in general surgery accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and be eligible for licensure in Louisiana. Successful candidates will have completed fellowship training in Minimally Invasive Surgery, Advanced GI/MIS, or Abdominal Wall Reconstruction with advanced training and/or substantial career experience focused on minimally invasive hernia repair and abdominal wall reconstruction.

The ideal candidate will possess expertise in minimally invasive and robotic abdominal wall reconstruction techniques, complex ventral and inguinal hernia repair, advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques, and general surgery. Experience with bariatric surgery and endoscopic procedures is welcomed but not required.

This position is intended to support the growth of a comprehensive abdominal wall reconstruction and hernia program. The anticipated clinical practice will consist of approximately 75% hernia repair/abdominal wall reconstruction and 25% general surgery.

Responsibilities will include working with the division to achieve its goals in each mission: administrative, education, research, and clinical. In addition to clinical duties, the successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to the education of fellows, residents, and medical students.

Job Summary:

Position Summary
