UTHealth Center for Obesity Medicine and Metabolic Performance invites applications for our comprehensive Clinical Fellowship in Obesity Medicine. This one-year fellowship, the fifth in the nation, is designed for current residents or recent graduates of internal medicine, family medicine, or endocrinology training programs who wish to obtain rigorous, comprehensive subspecialty training in the area of Obesity Medicine. We will be recruiting fellows seeking to begin the fellowship program on August 1, 2022, from July 15, 2021 – November 1, 2021. The deadline is November 1, 2021, for 2022-2023 applicants. This fellowship has been designed to provide trainees with expertise and clinical experience in the emerging field of Obesity Medicine, with a primary focus on the evaluation and management of patients with obesity. Fellows will learn how to treat obesity through intensive lifestyle intervention, nutritional, behavioral, pharmacological and surgical means, as well as how to address the comorbidities of this disorder most effectively. Trainees who complete this fellowship program will be prepared to pursue clinical and/or academic careers focused in obesity medicine and to become leaders in this emerging discipline.
Fellowship training in Obesity Medicine will occur over 1 year. Trainees will spend the majority of time in the adult clinical environment training obesity and its comorbidities. Didactic education includes the physiology and pathophysiology of body weight regulation and fundamental knowledge of current treatment and research in the field of Obesity medicine. On completion of fellowship, a fellow will be able to assess a patient with obesity or other metabolic disorders and to determine/facilitate an appropriate treatment plan. Trainees will understand and utilize standard and innovative approaches to the treatment of obesity, including body composition and metabolic measurement, novel combination therapies, surgical and medical integration of care, and outcomes related research and/or new and emerging treatment trials. They will be able to complete a full evaluation for patients with indications for obesity treatment both medically, surgically, and the med/surg combination and provide comprehensive care that leads to disease improvement.
Fellows will also develop the skills to be a competent educators in Obesity Medicine for medical students, residents, and endocrinology fellows rotating in the center. Outcomes and standard of care research can be completed under the guidance of a member of the program faculty and collaborating departments.
This fellowship is available to physicians who will have completed an accredited residency program in internal medicine, family medicine, or endocrinology. Other backgrounds considered on a case by case basis. Applicants must have completed a United States or Canadian residency program.

Position Highlights The Division Chief of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the Division. The Chief will be responsible for all planning, policy, operations, and oversight of academic, research, and clinical programs of the Division. The Chief will have financial authority over the state-appropriated budget assigned to the division, extramural research funding received, philanthropic funding, and other financial matters for the division in accordance with applicable University policies and practices.
This position reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery within the College of Medicine – Phoenix for all academic activities. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the Division Chief will have a matrix reporting relationship to the Chief Executive Officer of the Banner-University Medical Group (B-UMG) and CEO of B-UMC (Phoenix) for all clinical activities conducted at Banner-University Medical Center (Phoenix).

Minimum Qualifications • Qualified candidates must possess a Doctor of Medicine (MD/DO) or equivalent degree from an accredited • institution; • AND be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the Associate Professor level or higher. • Board certified by the ABS. • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona. • Greater than 5 years of progressively complex administrative experience (e.g., program leader, center/section director, etc.) in an academic medical center setting. • Demonstrated track record of national distinction in teaching, clinical care, and research discovery in an academic department of medicine or comparable environment. • National distinction through service on NIH study section and/or national committee leadership in ASMBS or similar professional societies. • Demonstrated commitment to patient care, reflecting a service- oriented, team- based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties. • Successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students. • Evidence of successful program building beyond one’s own research group. • Eligible for medical staff membership at B-UMCP.

The Department of Surgery at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY has an exciting opportunity for a full-time, Division Chief of Bariatric/Minimally Invasive Surgery to join our team at the level of Associate Professor or Professor of Surgery. This individual will provide leadership and oversee the expansion of an established general and bariatric surgery practice at the Upstate Community Hospital (UCH) which includes: Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Foregut Surgery, Endoscopy, Breast, Plastic, Colorectal and Hernia Surgery. The successful candidate will be board certified in General Surgery, Fellowship Trained in Bariatric/Minimally Invasive Surgery with experience in Bariatric, Foregut, Endoscopy and Hernia surgery. They will be qualified for a faculty appointment in the Upstate Department of Surgery and participate in the education and training of medical students and general surgery residents. The Upstate Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center at UCH includes a multidisciplinary team of surgeons, midlevel providers, PhD psychologist, social worker and dietitians. It is a designated MBSAQIP accredited Comprehensive Center facility which is committed to excellence in patient care and outcomes. The Upstate Division of Gastroenterology and the GI fellowship support the program with a collaborative multidisciplinary approach that is planned to be co-located in the new Upstate Digestive Disease Institute (UDDI) at UCH. The Division Chief will partner with DDI leadership to develop innovative, comprehensive and patient-centered multidisciplinary programs in foregut disorders and obesity management. The busy Upstate Family Medicine practice and residency program are also located at UCH, are growing rapidly and are actively recruiting additional faculty.
