Mission
The mission of the Integrated Health (IH) Program and Professional Education Committee is to promote and support the development of accredited post-professional education programs to improve the care and treatment of people with obesity and related diseases; to advance the science and understanding of metabolic and bariatric surgery; and to be a resource for the educational and professional needs of our diverse membership.
To achieve this mission the IH Program and Professional Education Committee will:
- Conduct on-going reviews of all IH professional education programs.
- Review, to approve or reject, proposals for new programs or substantive changes to existing professional education courses.
- Continuously advise, advocate, support and encourage ASMBS educational programs.
- Promote educational collaboration with related disciplines and organizations.
- Use available technologies to bring programming to members.
- Pursue ways to provide quality, affordable programming.
- Work in collaboration with the ASMBS CME/CEU director to further develop and maintain the Continuing Medical Education requirements of the ACCME (when appropriate) and discipline-specific continuing education credentialing requirements.
- Work in collaboration to develop symposiums, courses, workshops and other educational offerings for the Scientific Session at Obesity Week, as well as any other educational programs/events.
- Work to develop collaborative programs and courses at educational events.
- Provide support for the course directors and presenters, and function as a liaison to ASMBS organizational resources.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of ASMBS course director and presenter guidelines.
Description
The Integrated Health Program and Professional Education Committee is responsible for working inc collaboration with the Program Committee to develop educational events for the ASMBS Annual Meeting being the primary educational event. The committee identifies needs, professional gaps, and barriers; reviews and grades submitted abstracts; selects relevant topics and educational design; secures guest speakers; and contributes to the development of overall conference programming. The IH Program and Professional Education Committee is responsible for the promotion and development of educational programs that advance the skills, clinical practices, knowledge and research endeavors of metabolic and bariatric surgery professionals to enhance the quality of patient care, optimize outcomes, and improve patients’ quality of life.
