New Tiered International Membership Pricing
The American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) is pleased to announce a new tiered structure for international membership, designed to make membership more accessible to colleagues worldwide.
Eligibility for reduced rates is determined by the World Bank country classifications. If you reside in a Tier II, III, or IV country, please contact Membership Services at membership@asmbs.org before submitting your application to receive your country-specific discount code.
We recognize the global importance of advancing the science and treatment of obesity, and this tiered system helps reduce financial barriers for our international colleagues. Through this initiative, ASMBS aims to build a more inclusive, diverse, and collaborative community of professionals dedicated to educating and treating the disease of obesity.

International Membership Descriptions
International Member
International Membership is open to licensed medical doctors or osteopaths practicing outside of the United States who do not meet the requirements for Regular Membership. Eligible applicants should demonstrate scholarly interest in the treatment of obesity and a commitment to the long-term care of persons with obesity.
Candidate Member
A Candidate Member is in training with the intention of specializing in Bariatric Surgery. Candidate members are encouraged to reapply for full ASMBS membership or international membership upon completion of training.
International Associate
Integrated Health International Associate Membership is open to licensed, certified, or registered healthcare professionals practicing outside of the United States who do not meet the requirements for Integrated Health Regular Associate Membership. Eligible applicants should demonstrate scholarly interest in the treatment of obesity and a commitment to the long-term care of persons with obesity.
International Affiliate Associate
Integrated Health International Affiliate Membership is open to integrated healthcare professionals practicing outside of the United States who do not meet the requirements forIntegrated Health Affiliate Membership. This includes individuals employed by metabolic and bariatric surgical or medical practices, hospitals, research institutions, or those practicing independently. Eligible applicants should demonstrate scholarly interest in the treatment of obesity and a commitment to the long-term care of persons with obesity.
Integrated Health Student
Full-time Students in a relevant Integrated Health Discipline. Documentation of full-time enrollment in the course of study must be included. Requires a recommendation form completed by a Regular Surgeon, Affiliate Surgeon, or Regular Associate member in good standing of the ASMBS.

Apply For Membership
Please review the ASMBS Industry Policy before applying for membership. Please have your CV, board certification, and recommendation forms ready to upload during the application process!
- All memberships must be renewed annually. Membership is on a calendar-year basis (January – December)
- Complete applications must be submitted at least 30 days before any ASMBS conference to qualify for a member discount.
- Payment must be received before an application is reviewed. Please allow 2-3 weeks from submission of a COMPLETE and PAID application for review.
