About the Provider

Vance L. Albaugh, MD, PhD, is a metabolic and bariatric surgeon at Metamor Institute. Dr. Albaugh earned his medical degree from Penn State University College of Medicine and then completed his general surgery residency at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and his Fellowship in advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgery at the Cleveland Clinic. Aside from being a staff surgeon at Metamor Institute, he also serves as Assistant Professor of Metabolic Surgery at Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Louisiana State University, as well as an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. In addition to being certified by the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Albaugh has completed extensive scientific training, earning his PhD in the physiology of metabolism, with emphasis on control of body weight and diabetes. He has completed a postdoctoral research fellowship supported by the National Institutes of Health in surgical metabolism and bariatric surgery. Dr. Albaugh’s research interests include the investigation of the mechanisms of weight loss surgery, identification of patients who benefit most from surgical weight loss, as well as investigation of other lifestyle, dietary and medical treatments for weight loss and diabetes. Dr. Albaugh is the co-author of more than 60 scientific articles, including numerous invited editorials, book chapters and reviews within the medical and surgical literature.
