Dr. Venugopal began her surgical career as a Critical Care and Trauma Surgeon. Intrigued by the powerful impact of nutrition on health outcomes of critically ill patients, Dr. Venugopal changed her career focus, completing a Fellowship at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Minimally Invasive and Advanced GI Surgery. Currently, Dr. Venugopal is faculty at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she helps educate and train Vanderbilt medical students, residents, and Fellows. As a Bariatric Surgeon at Vanderbilt Center for Surgical Weight Loss, an ASMBS Center of Excellence, she works with an outstanding team of Medical Weight Loss practitioners, Dieticians, Psychiatrists, and fellow VUMC Bariatric Surgeons to deliver first class care to patients suffering from obesity. Dr. Venugopal focuses on Minimally Invasive Bariatric and Foregut Surgery, and sees new patients at multiple locations in Middle Tennessee. Dr. Venugopal offers primary surgery as well as revisional surgery, such as gastric sleeve, gastric bypass, diaphragmatic hernia and paraesophageal hernia repair, and surgical managment of esophageal and gastric motility disorders. Dr. Venugopal is proud to be an active member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons.
