Dr. Ramon Vilallonga is a General Surgeon and his subspecialty area is endocrine, metabolic and bariatric surgery. He has also been accredited in robotic surgery since 2007. He has performed more than 1200 morbid obesity interventions as the first surgeon.
He is an expert in the treatment of thyroid, parathyroid, adrenal and morbid obesity and specializes in minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) and robotics. He is an expert in obesity surgery in adolescents and performs both primary obesity procedures and after complications or failure of previous surgeries or endoscopic procedures.
Ramon Vilallonga Puy (Andorra, 1976) holds a PhD in Medicine from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona with an Extraordinary Prize (2006) and was trained as a General and Digestive Surgeon at the Hospital Universitari Vall Hebron (2008). He has also developed part of his training at the University of Strasbourg (France) and later at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida (USA). Subsequently he has worked in Belgium with Dr. Jacques Himpens, where he has incorporated new approaches and techniques for the management of the failure of surgical techniques.
He has performed more than 1200 morbid obesity interventions as the first surgeon and is endorsed as an expert of the Spanish Society of Obesity Surgery (SECO). He is the secretary of the SECO where he develops teaching activities as trainer and institutional. Dr. Vilallonga is the Chair of the Communication Committee of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) where he works as director of the communication section.
Dr. Vilallonga is also an important lecturer and researcher as Associate Professor of Surgery at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. He is the author of more than 100 international scientific articles (index H-index = 17) and currently director of 3 doctoral theses. He is also the author of 2 books and 14 chapters of books and collaborating researcher in FIS projects and member of research networks of the Carlos III Institute. He also participates in various clinical trials trials and related research projects.
Member of 6 scientific societies, he is a member of the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity and Related Diseases, in his New Technology Committee among others. He is also a member of the American Society for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery. (ASMBS).
Dr. Vilallonga is a reviewer of several international journals highlighting Surgical endoscopy, SOARD, Annals of Surgery or Obesity Surgery among others.
