Dr. Patrick Sweigert is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he specializes in minimally invasive bariatric and foregut surgery. He completed his undergraduate training in biochemistry at University of Dayton, earned his medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, and completed general surgery residency at Loyola University Medical Center, including a dedicated research fellowship in surgical health services research. He went on to complete fellowship training in minimally invasive bariatric and foregut surgery at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center, where he joined the faculty in 2023. Dr. Sweigert is additionally board certified by the American Board of Obesity Medicine, reflecting his commitment to advancing modern, multidisciplinary approaches to obesity care. His research focuses on novel paradigms of obesity management, with particular emphasis on defining the evolving role of metabolic and bariatric surgery in the era of GLP-1–based pharmacotherapy. Through integrated clinical and translational research, his work aims to optimize patient outcomes and inform evidence-based, personalized treatment strategies for obesity.
