About the Provider

Dr. Owen Pyke is a board-certified general surgeon and fellowship-trained specialist in bariatric, minimally invasive, and robotic surgery. As a member of the patient-centered bariatric care team at NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island, he helps patients lose excess body weight and improve their health through advanced, minimally invasive surgical techniques that use small incisions for faster recovery and enhanced outcomes.

Dr. Pyke’s clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of weight loss surgery, including complex revisional procedures to repair or modify previous operations. He is passionate about helping patients achieve meaningful, lasting improvements in health—often resolving obesityrelated conditions such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, high cholesterol, and obstructive sleep apnea, thereby extending both lifespan and quality of life.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Pyke’s research focuses on health literacy, surgical education, global surgery, and obesity surgery, with particular emphasis on the management of ulcers following bariatric surgery. He has a special interest in understanding disease at both the population and individual level.

At NYU Langone Hospital–Long Island, Dr. Pyke serves as an Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program, where he oversees didactic education, simulation training, and surgical skills development. In this role, he is deeply committed to fostering the growth of future surgeons through innovative, evidence-based teaching and mentorship.
