About the Provider

Dr. Schweitzer is Director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Obesity Surgery and Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery. Since 2006, Dr. Schweitzer has been a site inspector for the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program, which was previously the Bariatric Surgery Center Network Accreditation Program of the American College of Surgeons that joined with the previous ASMBS center of excellence program.
Dr. Schweitzer was Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Medical College of Virginia and Georgetown University before his current appointment at Johns Hopkins University. He is past chair of the membership committee for the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and past president of the Maryland ASMBS chapter. Dr. Schweitzer has authored/co-authored more than 100 scientific papers, editorials, textbook chapters, abstracts, and video productions. He has been an invited speaker for more than 60 regional, national and international lectures. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases and Bariatric Times.
Dr. Schweitzer is an expert in laparoscopic bariatric surgery since 1998 and continues to perform and teach minimally invasive surgery with a majority of his operative cases utilizing the Da Vinici Robotic Surgical System.
