I was born and raised in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. The third son of tobacco farmers and elementary school teachers, in an impoverished region, I was very fortunate to learn from an early age not only the value of an education but also a hard day's work. I attended School of Medicine at the Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara in Jalisco, Mexico, where I obtained a Professional Title as Medico Cirujano. Then, through the New York Medical College, I was granted a Medical Doctor degree after finishing one year of Internship in Manhattan, NY. I completed my surgical residency and one year fellowship in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery at the Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, New York. I am a Board Certified General Surgeon licensed in the states of New York, Kentucky, Florida and Texas. I'm certified on both Advanced Cardiac and Trauma Life Support. I am the Medical Director of Bariatrics at the Laredo Medical Center which to date holds various Bariatric and Surgical certifications and distinctions based on volume and outcomes.
