Dr. Michael Cook earned his MD at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine in Memphis, TN. He completed a residency in general surgery at the Ochsner Clinic Foundation in New Orleans, LA (where he also met his wife and currently resides). He finished a fellowship at the Emory Endosurgery Unit in Atlanta, GA where he received advanced training in minimally invasive surgery including bariatric and endoscopic surgery. After being in private practice for almost 10 years, he joined Louisiana State University as a clinical assistant professor of surgery. Dr. Cook is the Director of Bariatric Surgery at University Medical Center, New Orleans, a MBSAQIP accredited comprehensive center. He currently performs both the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and the laparoscopic roux-en-y gastric bypass, as well as revisions. He lectures nationally on the subject of minimally invasive surgery and bariatric surgery.
