About the Provider

Dr. Mary Kate Bryant is a minimally invasive surgeon in the field of foregut and metabolic surgery with a dual appointment at MUSC and the VA Medical Center in Charleston, SC. Her clinical interests include bariatric surgery and the surgical treatment of benign esophageal disorders including anti-reflux surgery. She is originally from Alabama where she completed her medical degree at the UAB and then went on to complete general surgery residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During her general surgery residency, she completed a Masters of Science in Clinical Research at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health and won several research awards for her work addressing health disparities in surgical patients. She went on to an Advanced Gastrointestinal Minimally Invasive Surgery Fellowship program at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. She is a funded researcher with research interests centering on improving access to bariatric surgery, investigating better metrics of adiposity, and addressing reflux during metabolic surgery.
