Dr. Marcos Berry was born in Santiago, Chile
Dr. Berry is the former Chief of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery at Clinica Las Condes, Santiago-Chile
Dr. Berry obtained his M.D. from Catholic University in Chile, 1990. He did his surgical training at the New York Medical College (Montefiore) from 1992-1998. Dr. Berry also completed a mini-fellowship in advanced Laparoscopic Surgery at MISTI-Maryland, USA
Upon completion of his fellowship, he was recruited to the Clinica Las Condes, main private medical center in Chile, as the chief of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Unit. He is a board certified surgeon by the American Board of Surgery (recertified 2024), member of SAGES , IFSO, ASMBS, former president of the Chilean Bariatric Society and past member of the Directory, and founder member of the Chilean Baraiatric Society. Fellow of the ACS ( FACS )since 2014 
Dr. Berry is well known for his contributions in the field of Bariatric Surgery in Chile, in particular the first surgeon to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass and first Laparoscopic Band in 2001 .In 2001 placed the first intragastric balloon . In 2008 performed first duodeno-jejunal bypass for selected diabetic non obese patients, and also is well trained in endobariatrics including intragastric balloons , Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty with Apollo Also is a pioneer using Magnetic Surgery in Bariatrics in Chile and worldwide. And one of the leaders in Linx anti GERD surgery in LatinAmerica. In 2019 did the first laparoscopic SADIS in Chile and has the largest experience till now. And pioneer with the swallowable Allurion gastric balloon in Chile and Latin America since 2019 
He has been a preceptor and proctor in several workshops throughout Latin America, teaching about banding and sleeve gastrectomy, SADIS and balloons. He has been invited as faculty to several International Congresses from the US and Europe, as a speaker, as a moderator or panelist in round tables 
He has trained over 30 surgeons from Chile an latinamerica in bariatric surgery thru an ongoing Bariatric Fellowship over the last 18 years, and published journal articles as author/co-author in over 45 publications, 4 book chapters. He is Professor of the University of Chile and Professor of UFT University and Director of the Bariatric Fellowship. He has been a visiting professor and operated in over 17 institutions in several countries. Dr. Berry also has received a number of honorary memberships and awards throughout his career
