Dr. Mellert is currently practicing at Summa Health in Akron, Ohio. He completed his Fellowship in Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery at Summa Health and his General Surgery Residency at Western Reserve Hospital in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He is Board Certified in General Surgery by The American Osteopathic Association. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering with a Polymer Specialization from The University of Akron and is a graduate of Ohio University’s Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Mellert’s specialty and research interests include minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic and robotic), metabolic and bariatric surgery; abdominal wall reconstruction and complex hernia repair, and anti-reflux (GERD) surgery. He has a strong passion for surgical education. He has published numerous peer-reviewed journal articles, books, book chapters and surgical videos.
