Dr. Leena Khaitan, MD, MPH, FASMBS, is a surgeon in Cleveland, Ohio, at University Hospitals. She trained at Lankenau Medical Center for residency and then went to Vanderbilt University School of Medicine for a fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Her first faculty position was at Emory Healthcare in Atlanta, GA. There she served as Director of Bariatrics and of the Esophageal Physiology lab. She then moved to Cleveland to University Hospitals as Associate Professor of Surgery. She currently is the Director of the Metabolic and bariatric Nutrition Center and the Esophageal and Swallowing Center within the Digestive Health Institute and runs the MIS/bariatric fellowship. She is the first female full professor of surgery at UH and Case Western Reserve University. She is a Board member of SAGES and serves on several committees. At ASMBS she is a leader in the effort to formalize training and certification in bariatric endoscopy. She has several peer reviewed publications, abstracts and book chapters.
