Laura E. Fischer, M.D., M.S., is a board-certified surgeon at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She specializes in advanced GI, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery. She is the Medical Director of the Mercy OKC Weight & Wellness Program. In addition to weight loss surgery, she has clinical interest in benign and malignant conditions of the esophagus and stomach, as well as performing laparoscopic procedures of the spleen, adrenal gland, biliary tract, pancreas, small intestine, and abdominal wall hernias. She also specializes in robotic surgery and advanced upper endoscopy. Her research and education focus is on building sustainable global surgery collaborations to increase access to life-saving surgical care everywhere. Dr. Fischer completed a fellowship in advanced GI, minimally invasive, and bariatric surgery at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU), Portland OR. She completed a general surgery residency and internship at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Madison WI. She earned her medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York, NY. Dr. Fischer is member of the following academic societies: American College of Surgeons (ACS), American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), the Society for Surgery of Alimentary Tract (SSAT), Association for Academic Surgery (AAS), Association of Women Surgeons (AWS).
