Kyle Gadbois, MD FACS FASMBS

Commander Kyle Gadbois was commissioned into the United States Navy Medical Corps in July 2001 as part of the Health Professions Scholarship Program. After obtaining both a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2001, he attended the Chicago Medical School – Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science where he graduated with honors in 2006. He later completed his internship and general surgery residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) in 2011. Immediately following residency, he was stationed for 2 years with Fleet Surgical Team FIVE and deployed with Amphibious Ready Group FIVE and the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit. His next tour was at Camp Pendleton with 1st Medical Battalion before being selected for fellowship at Scripps Green Hospital in La Jolla, California. There he continued his training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, graduating in 2015 with proficiency in advanced laparoscopic, endoscopic and robotic surgery. Following fellowship, Commander Gadbois returned to NMCSD and became Associate Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery. During his tour at NMCSD, he was deployed as an Advance Echelon Surgeon as part of the Directorate of Medical Operations and Plans for Pacific Partnership 2016. He also served as the Director of Surgical Services aboard the USNS MERCY (T-AH 19) from June 2017 to July 2021, and was deployed for Pacific Partnership 2018, Rim of the Pacific Exercise (RIMPAC) 2018 and Defense Support of Civil Authorities (DSCA) 2020 in response to COVID-19 pandemic. He currently serves as the Chair and US Navy's Representative for Defense Health Agency's (DHA) Surgical Services Clinical Community (S2C2), and the Director of the Naval Medical Center San Diego Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Program. He is an Assistant Professor of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland.
