Joshua E. Roller, MD, is proud to play a part in improving the lives of his patients through weight loss surgery. Dr. Roller moved to Northwest Arkansas in August 2007 after completing a Minimally Invasive Surgical Fellowship in Bariatric and Advanced Laparoscopic General Surgery at Duke University Medical Center, one of the premier bariatric surgery centers in the country. Dr. Roller is the most experienced Bariatric Surgeon in the region and has performed more than 7,000 bariatric procedures (weight loss surgeries), including the laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic modified and traditional Duodenal Switch, lap gastric banding, and the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with outstanding weight loss results. He was the 1st Bariatric surgeon in the region to perform the laparoscopic Duodenal Switch procedure, the most complex of all the weight-loss surgeries. Dr. Roller was the 1st fellowship-trained bariatric surgeon and advanced Laparoscopic surgeon in the State of Arkansas and performs state-of-the-art minimally invasive surgical procedures, using the same techniques and methods to perform the types of procedures you will find at major medical centers across the country.
Dr. Roller has performed several laparoscopic surgical procedures that had previously never been performed in Northwest Arkansas, including totally laparoscopic pancreas, rectal, bile duct, and gastric (stomach) procedures. In addition to bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery), Dr. Josh Roller has extensive experience in other advanced laparoscopic general surgical procedures including colon/rectal resection, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, gastrectomy, pancreatectomy, Nissen fundoplication, paraesopahgeal hernia repair, inguinal and ventral/incisional hernia repair. Dr. Roller believes that the minimally invasive approach to surgery is in his patients’ best interest, as it is associated with less pain, shorter hospital stays, lower infection rates and a quicker return to work.
Dr. Josh Roller is board-certified in general surgery and is a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the Parkland Surgical Society, and the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Roller received his medical degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine, as a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA), representing the top 10 percent of his class. He completed his internship and general surgery residency at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas, one of the busiest and most respected surgical training programs in the country. As a chief resident, he was given the national honor of Outstanding Laparoendoscopic Resident of the Year. He then completed a one-year fellowship in bariatric surgery at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Roller has done extensive research in bariatric and laparoscopic surgery and has published several research papers in major journals.
