About the Provider

Jane Sylvestre, MS, RDN, LDN brings research into practice to facilitate long term weight loss success for her patients.
Jane is the lead dietitian at the Center for Surgical Weight Loss at Care New England through Kent Hospital in Warwick, RI.
Jane has been working with bariatric patients for over 10 years. She has received a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from Texas Woman’s University and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. She completed her dietetic internship at the Houston VA Medical Center in Houston, TX. She received her level 1 and level 2 certificate in Adult Weight Management from the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She is a past recipient of the “Young Dietitian of the Year” from the Academy. She has been a certified diabetes educator and certified aerobics instructor. She is an active member of the ASMBS and Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Weight Management Practice Group.
Jane was the founder of the New England Bariatric Surgery Dietitian Network and the organizer of bariatric conferences of New England for several years. She has volunteered as the treasurer of the RI Dietetic Association. She also volunteers monthly at her local food pantry.
Jane puts most of her energy into providing her patients with as many tools as possible to have a successful weight loss journey. She writes a monthly comprehensive newsletter for Care New England focusing on weight management and Bariatric Surgery. She teaches a Back on Track nutrition class which includes hands on cooking classes and tours of the supermarket. Jane utilizes social media through a closed Facebook group for her patients to offer an additional mode of support called “cast-a-weighs.” Jane organizes and runs monthly support groups for her practice. Jane created a walking & running group called “J walkers” for whom she routinely puts 5K’s on the calendar to do as a group. Jane puts out a monthly interactive display in her office offering various bariatric topics and seasonal recipes. Jane created and operates a “bariatric boutique” where patients can donate their clothing as they are losing weight and offer to others just starting their journey. Jane implemented a mentor program and connects patients who are doing well with those just starting the process. Jane works hard to ensure that her patients have the tools they need to succeed!
In her spare time, Jane loves to run. Jane has completed 8 marathons, 1 of which she encouraged and ran with one of her patients.
