Dr. James A. Dickerson II joined CHI St. Luke’s Health—The Woodlands Hospital as a Minimally Invasive, Bariatric and General Surgeon. After graduating the United States Military Academy at West Point, he completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland. Dr. Dickerson pursued his goal of becoming a surgeon and was selected for a surgical residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Upon graduation, he served as an Army Medical Corps Officer in numerous capacities, to include deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan. He furthered his surgical training with a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. Dr. Dickerson was then selected to serve as the Surgery Program Director at Brooke Army Medical Center, responsible for the training of future surgeons. His 25-year Army career culminated in his position as the Chief, Division of General Surgery at Brooke Army Medical Center and Regional Consultant to the Surgeon General. Dr. Dickerson possesses a wealth of experience in the treatment of complex surgical diseases, to include weight loss, hernia, and heartburn surgery. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Surgery, and is fluent in both English and Spanish. Dr. Dickerson is a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons. He currently serves as the Director of both Bariatric and Robotic Surgery.
