Dr. James Cassiano is a local resident of Gulf Breeze, FL. He attended medical school at Florida State University College of Medicine and completed his General Surgery internship and residency at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC. He then went on to finish fellowship in Advanced Gastrointestinal, Minimally Invasive, & Bariatric Surgery at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. After fellowship, Dr. Cassiano was excited to move back to the Panhandle and his hometown as an attending private practice surgeon with the The Surgery Group in Pensacola, FL. He specializes in performing complex bariatric and foregut procedures with a minimally invasive approach and also treats a multitude of gastrointestinal/general surgery and abdominal wall hernia conditions. He practices comprehensive bariatric care including robotic and laparoscopic surgeries and endoscopy as well as obesity related medical management. Dr. Cassiano is board certified with the American Board of Surgery (ABS), and he is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS). Dr. Cassiano is recognized as a Verified Surgeon by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). He has affiliations with both Baptist Health Care and Ascension Sacred Heart hospital systems and has offices and performs surgery at each location. Both Baptist Health & Ascension Sacred Heart hospitals in Pensacola, FL are fully accredited by the MBSAQIP in conjunction with the ASMBS as Comprehensive Care centers for excellent bariatric care. In his free time, Dr. Cassiano enjoys outdoor activities including nearly all sports, surfing, fishing, traveling and spending quality time with friends and family.
