About the Provider

Dr. Ames earned her Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of Florida, Gainesville, FL and joined Mayo Clinic in Florida in 2007 as a psychologist for the obesity specialty care program. She is board certified in Clinical Health Psychology and a licensed psychologist in the states of Florida and Georgia. She is also licensed to practice interstate telepsychology through PSYPACT. She holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Psychology in the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and is an Adjunct Professor at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, Florida. Her clinical duties include performing psychosocial assessments for patients who are seeking metabolic bariatric surgery. Dr. Ames teaches pre-surgical education, facilities post-surgery support groups, and conducts clinical research. Her research interests include behavioral and psychological factors that are associated with long-term maintenance of weight loss and increasing access to care for metabolic bariatric surgery.
