Givi Basishvili, MD, is a board-certified general and fellowship-trained Bariatric Surgeon. He specializes in metabolic & bariatric surgery, bariatric endoscopy, minimally invasive surgery, robotic surgery, and foregut surgery. Dr. Basishvili is a strong believer in patient-centered, individualized care that utilizes multidisciplinary teams. He cares deeply for patients, using minimally invasive surgical techniques to transform patient outcomes. Dr. Basishvili holds numerous clinical and research awards, authors' publications, as well as book chapters, and presents at national conferences. He completed his undergraduate training at New York University where he majored in Biochemistry and graduated as a Presidential Scholar. He pursued his passion for patient care by obtaining his medical degree at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, where he graduated with distinction in translational science. Dr. Basishvili subsequently trained as a general surgeon at a high-volume, tertiary-care academic hospital at Stony Brook University, where he graduated with distinction as a chief resident. Dr. Basishvili additionally completed fellowship training in bariatric surgery and minimally invasive surgery at UT Southwestern where he developed the latest advanced skills in robotic and bariatric surgery. Dr. Basishvili has publications on various topics within the field of metabolic surgery, including peer reviewed journal publications on pre-operative management, post-operative care, and management of vitmain / nutritional deficiencies. His book chapter publications in Operative Techniques in Surgery and Operative Techniques in Foregut Surgery focus on minimally invasive techniques in order to approach complex surgical interventions. Dr. Basishvili currently practices surgery at Valley Health in Winchester Virginia, where he serves his community with compassion with the goal of improving his patinet's quality of life.
