Eric Velazquez, MD MBA FACS FASMBS

Dr. Eric Velazquez is a highly accomplished bariatric surgeon originally from Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. He earned his Medical Degree at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo and went on to complete a General Surgery Residency at Saint Vincent Catholic Medical Center in New York City. Dr. Velazquez further honed his expertise through a Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Fellowship at the New York Institute of Minimally Invasive Surgery at Westchester Medical Center. With over a decade of dedicated service to the bariatric patient community, Dr. Velazquez is passionately committed to combating obesity. His leadership journey includes roles such as Medical Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at Northside Hospital Duluth. Previously, he served as Chief of Division for Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at Temple University Hospital and as Chief of Surgery at Temple University Hospital-Jeanes Campus. Throughout his career, Dr. Velazquez has been instrumental in instructing, coaching, and mentoring numerous medical and surgical residents. Actively involved in regional and national committees, he recently completed a 3-year term on the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS) Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Board certified and a fellow of both the American College of Surgeons and ASMBS, Dr. Velazquez has received notable recognition. He was named an Atlanta Magazine Top Doctor for 2023 and a Philadelphia Magazine Top Doctor in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021. In addition to his clinical pursuits in bariatric, robotic, and minimally invasive surgery, Dr. Velazquez is an accomplished author. His book, "Losing Weight, Gaining Life: A Complete Guide to Overcoming Obesity," achieved Amazon Best Seller status in the Medical Procedure category. Outside of his professional commitments, Dr. Velazquez finds joy in activities like mountain biking, kayaking, and traveling. Family holds a special place in his heart, and he values quality time with loved ones. Fluent in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, Dr. Velazquez joined the prestigious Longstreet Clinic in October 2021, where he currently serves on the Operations Management Board.
