About the Provider

Dr. Bautista grew up in Southern California where he attended Loma Linda University (B.A.), University of California, Riverside (M.S.) and Loma Linda University (M.D.). After finishing his internship at Naval Hospital Oakland, the Navy took this California boy to Virginia to complete his general surgery residency at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth in 1999. rnHe served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant Commander on board the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower as shipu2019s surgeon then at Naval Hospital Jacksonville as assistant department head and chairman of the cancer committee. After 10 years of service he reached the rank of Commander then returned to Virginia to enter private practice in 2004.rnDr. Bautista retired in 2019. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. rnHe was the Medical Director for the Bariatric Surgery program at St. Maryu2019s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia. Bariatric procedures performed include robotic-assisted Roux en Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. rnHe also practiced general surgery with an emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic surgery of the gastrointestinal tract. Dr. Bautista performed the widest variety of robotic general surgery procedures and has helped train surgeons on the DaVinci robotic surgical platform.rn
