About the Provider

Dr Stefanidis is a professor of surgery, chief of the MIS/bariatric surgery section, and vice chair of education at the Indiana University school of medicine department of surgery. He also serves as the medical director of the bariatric surgery program at IU Health North Hospital. Dr Stefanidis performs laparoscopic and robotic sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, duodenal switch, and a variety of revisional procedures. Dr Stefanidis has a passion for clinical outcomes and education research and has published over 250 peer-reviewed papers in prestigious surgical journals, given over 300 scientific presentations at a national/ international stage, received more than 20 research awards, and obtained over $3 million dollars in funding. His research focuses on improving the safety and maximizing the benefits of bariatric surgery and fighting weight recurrence. He is a fellow of ASMBS and serves as chair of the ASMBS research committee. He is the president of the Association for Surgical Education and serves on the board of SAGES. He is an editorial board member of SOARD also serves as founding editor-in-chief for Global Surgical Education the Journal of the Association for Surgical Education.
