I am a bariatric psychologist and owner of Northside Psychology where we perform presurgical psychological evaluations throughout the US. I also work with patients before and after surgery to prepare them for surgery and minimize psychosocial complications. I developed the MPABS, the only psychological assessment specifically designed for bariatric surgery candidates. The test is able to identify patients that are at risk for postsurgical complications as well as those that are at risk for dropping out of surgery. This provides us the opportunity to intervene so patients are successful in completing bariatric surgery, losing weight, and keeping it off while minimizing psychosocial complications. In essense, the test is able to reduce risk while increasing volume. I am interested in working with surgical programs that assist us with data collection in an effort to continually improve the MPABS system.
