David Chengelis, MD

Dr. Chengelis completed residencies in both Internal Medicine and General Surgery with additional training in advanced laparoscopic surgery and more recently robotic surgery. He is in private practice, affiliated with William Beaumont University Hospital, Royal Oak and Troy facilities, Michigan now part of Corewell Health. He has a large amount of experience in bariatric surgery along with hernia, gallbladder and reflux surgery. He is a high volume robotic surgeon and proctors other surgeons in the adopting of this technology. He is an assistant professor on the faculty of the William Beaumont Oakland University School of Medicine playing an active role in the education of medical students and surgery residents. He is a past president of the Michigan Bariatric Society, the state chapter of the ASMBS. He is a founding member of the Michigan Bariatric Surgical Collaborative which has lead the nation in outcomes based quality improvement in the field. He also has been a frequent advocate for health care issues visiting the state capital and lobbying legistators on Capitol Hill in Washington DC. He also has made several trips pro bono to underserved third world countries on surgical missions. He has over three decades of service to others as a surgeon and remains very active and committed to those who suffer from obesity.
