Danuel Laan, MD FASMBS

Danuel Laan, MD, is a bariatric and general surgeon with Ascension Medical Group Providence. Dr. Laan is board-certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery. Weight-loss surgeries he offers include gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and duodenal switch. In addition to bariatric surgery, Dr. Laan specializes in the surgical management of gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatal hernia, achalasia, and tumors of the esophagus and stomach. He also specializes in minimally invasive and robotic general surgery including groin and abdominal wall hernia repair. An Alabama native, Dr. Laan is committed to putting his patient’s needs first. He enjoys helping patients through their weight-loss journey aiming for long-term success. When you meet with Dr. Laan, he will work with you to establish a comprehensive understanding of your health history and goals. Then together, you and he will create a personalized weight-loss plan that's right for you, including surgery, diet, exercise and lifestyle changes. He is a former board member for the Alabama Rural Health Association, and he is an Eagle Scout. His research has been published in the Journal of Surgery, the Journal of Gastrointestinal Surgery, the Journal of Medical Devices, the Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, the Journal of Investigative Medicine, the Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery, and the Journal of Critical Care. Outside of the office, Dr. Laan enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, reading the Bible and getting closer to God.
