Dr. Safadi is currently Professor of Clinical Surgery at the American University of Beirut(AUB) Medical Center and serves as the head of the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (MBS) Unit. Dr. Safadi has been performing bariatric surgery since 2001 when he was an assistant professor of surgery at Stanford University and its affiliated VA PAHCS. Dr. Safadi then joined AUB in 2005 where he founded its MBS unit. In 2018, he became the Chair of Surgery at the Lebanese American University (LAU) Gilbert and Rose-Marie Chagoury school of medicine until April 2021. He the moved to Qatar as the founding Chair of Surgical Services at Aman hospital in Doha until his return to Lebanon May 2025. Dr. Safadi is a leading figure in MBS in Lebanon and the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. He is a founding member of the IFSO MENA chapter and served as the chair of its research and scientific committee. He was the president of IFSO Lebanon Chapter 2019-2020 and was a member of the scientific and research committee of IFSO. He is the Chair of the Programs committe of the International Relations Committe (IRC) of the American College of Surgeons (ACS). Dr. Safadi has authored or co-authored more than 50 papers on MBS and has conducted and organized numerous workshops, lecture series and conferences on MBS in Lebanon and the MENA region.
