Dr. Ana Isabel Peña is a board-certified General and Bariatric Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive, foregut, and metabolic surgery. Born in Holguín, Cuba, she immigrated to the United States at age 18 and pursued her undergraduate studies in Biomedical Engineering at Florida International University, graduating summa cum laude. During her engineering training, she was inducted into the prestigious honor societies Alpha Eta Mu Beta and Tau Beta Pi and was recognized as the Outstanding Graduate in Biomedical Engineering. Dr. Peña earned her medical degree from the Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine, where she was inducted into the Gold Humanism Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. She was also awarded the Dean’s Scholarship and remained actively involved in peer education and academic mentorship. She completed her General Surgery residency at Cleveland Clinic Florida, followed by fellowship training in Advanced Gastrointestinal and Minimally Invasive Surgery, with a focus on Foregut and Bariatric Surgery, also at Cleveland Clinic Florida. Dr. Peña currently practices as a Minimally Invasive, General, and Bariatric Surgeon at Cleveland Clinic Florida. She serves as community-based faculty at Florida International University’s Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine and is the Clinical Clerkship Co-Director of General Surgery at Ross University School of Medicine. Her professional interests include metabolic and bariatric surgery, complex foregut disease, and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques. Outside of surgery, Dr. Peña enjoys competitive sports including volleyball, racquetball, and table tennis, and most values time spent with her children.
