Integrated Health Mentorship Program Application
On behalf of the IH Section Multidisciplinary Care Committee, we present the ASMBS Integrated Health Mentorship Program to help promote professional success, reduce burnout, and encourage the well-being of our IH members. Pairing early career with mid-career IH professionals (5-15 years of practice) and mid-career with senior IH professionals (>15 years of experience/retired) will target the needs of the mentee over a one-year period. Mission
- To provide a mentorship program that aims to promote Integrated Health members professional and personal success.
- To reduce burnout of Integrated Health practitioners and encourage the well-being of ASMBS Integrated Health professionals.
- To provide mentorship to encourage involvement within the ASMBS society and future leadership roles
Who is eligible?
- Integrated Health Members who are in good standing with ASMBS, within the United States.
- Active Integrated Health fellows are encouraged to apply
- An early-career Integrated Health practitioner (less than 5 years of experience in MBS) in the mentee role will be paired with a mentor of a mid-career MBS experience (5-15 years of experience).
- A mid-career Integrated Health MBS professional (5-15 years experience in bariatric surgery) in the role of mentee will be paired with a mentor of a senior Integrated Health MBS professional (>15 years of experience or retiree).
- Less experienced or first-time mentors are encouraged to apply; mentor resources will be provided to help guide your experience!
Requirements to IH Mentorship Program
- 1-year commitment, at minimum quarterly meetings (4x a year).
- Matches will be paired yearly with meetings scheduled to start in January of each year. The committee will provide feedback regarding matching status in early to mid-December.
- Mentees and mentors must complete surveys at the mid-year and end of the year.
- Mentors will initiate contact before January 15th, to set up the first visit via telephone or videoconference.Â
- At the conclusion of each meeting, future meeting times should be scheduled, and the mentor should propose a specific action plan for the mentee to work on.
- At any time, the mentee and/or mentor may request a change in pairings after an appropriate trial period or in rare events of severe incompatibility with follow-up from the program leadership.
- Pairings will be based on availability, select interests and sufficient compatibility, determined by responses to the mentee and mentor questionnaires, including mentee needs and mentor expertise
