Chapter Information

Mission Statement

This Society is a non‐profit corporation and is not organized for the private gain of any person. It is organized under the New Jersey Non‐Profit Corporation Act and is organized for the purposes set forth in the Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(6) or the corresponding provision of any future United States internal revenue law. Within the context of these general purposes, the Society’s specific purposes shall be:

  1. to promote the advancement of the art and science of metabolic and bariatric surgery;
  2. to promote the highest standards of professional skills and competence among metabolic and bariatric surgeons;
  3. to promote the exchange of information among metabolic and bariatric surgeons;
  4. to promote the highest standards of personal and professional conduct among metabolic and bariatric surgeons; and
  5. to promote the purposes and effectiveness of metabolic and bariatric surgeons as is consistent with the public interest.

  • Annual Meeting: December 5, 2015, The Renaissance Woodbridge Hotel & Conference Center, 515 Route One South, Iselin, NJ
    Issues discussed included:
    1) The Committee again reviewed BC/BS policy of routinely denying concomitant Hiatal Hernia repair with Sleeve/band. In general advice is to not do it and if done must be dictated in detail and will likely require an appeal
    2) Mr. Newman, Chapter legal counsel updated the Committee on recent legislation affecting NJ surgeons
    3) The Committee decided to continue to rely on the Executive staff to collect Chapter dues
    4) The slate of officers for 2015/2016 was reviewed and no changes will be made; the election of officers will take place at the December 2016 meeting
    5) A calendar of events for NJ ASMBS meetings for 2016 was discussed; the Chapter will participate in the Spring NY Chapter Annual meeting – more details to follow
