Faiz Shariff, MD FACS DABS-FPMBS FASMBS

Dr. Faiz Shariff is a dedicated and highly skilled metabolic and bariatric surgeon at WellSpan Health, with over three and a half years of experience combating the obesity epidemic. Passionate about addressing the complexities of obesity, Dr. Shariff offers a comprehensive range of treatments, including anti-obesity medications and advanced surgical procedures such as revisional surgery, Single Anastomosis Duodenal-Ileal Bypass (SADI), and Biliopancreatic Diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD-DS). Her approach is grounded in compassion and empathy, aiming to dismantle the stigma surrounding obesity while empowering patients with the knowledge to combat their disease effectively. In addition to her clinical expertise, Dr. Shariff has significantly contributed to the advancement of surgical techniques at WellSpan Health. As the Director of Robotic Surgery, she played a pivotal role in expanding the program by mentoring acute care surgeons in adopting the robotic platform. Under her leadership, WellSpan York Hospital earned the prestigious Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery designation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC). Her efforts have not only enhanced the quality of care but also elevated the hospital's reputation in robotic surgery. Recently appointed as the Vice Chair of the Department of Surgery, Dr. Shariff is eager to continue positively impacting the department. Her vision includes fostering a collaborative environment and driving innovations that improve patient outcomes. Dr. Shariff is an active member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS), where she serves on four key committees: the Clinical Issues Committee, the Bariatric Fellowship Training Committee, the Public Education Committee, and the Diversity and Inclusion Committee. Through her involvement in these committees, she contributes to shaping the future of bariatric surgery and advancing public understanding of obesity.
