All memberships must be renewed annually. Membership is on a calendar-year basis (January – December)

Regular Member $375
A general surgeon working in the field of bariatric surgery who is certified by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and/or is a Fellow of the American or Royal College of Surgeons. The surgeon must also have completed a minimum of 25 bariatric surgeries as the primary surgeon within the last two years. The applicant is required to submit Letter of Recommendation Forms from two current Regular or Senior members. Fill out the online Surgeon/Physician Application with Instructions AND have TWO Regular or Senior members fill out the online Regular Member Sponsor Letter of Recommendation Form
Upgrade from an Affiliate Surgeon to a Regular Member $50
Once you have become a Board Certified Surgeon and completed more than 25 surgeries as the primary surgeon, you may apply to upgrade to a Regular Member. A current Curriculum Vitae, an additional Letter of Recommendation from a Regular or Senior member other than your original sponsor is required for an upgrade. Fill out the online Upgrade from Affiliate Surgeon to Regular Member Form AND have one Regular or Senior members fill out the online Regular Member Sponsor Letter of Recommendation Form who IS NOT your original sponsoring member.
Affiliate Surgeon Member $325
A general surgeon working in the field of bariatric surgery who is NOT certified by the American Board of Surgery or the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery and/or is NOT a Fellow of the American or Royal College of Surgeons and/or has completed less than 25 cases as the primary surgeon in the last two years. The applicant is required to submit a Letter of Recommendation Form from a current Regular or Senior (previously Regular) member. Fill out the online Surgeon/Physician Application with Instructions AND have one Regular or Senior Member fill out the online Regular Member Sponsor Letter of Recommendation Form .
Affiliate Physician Member $325
A medical doctor or osteopath working in the field of bariatric surgery but does not perform bariatric procedures. The applicant is required to submit a Letter of Recommendation Form from a current Regular or Senior (previously Regular) member. A licensed medical doctor or osteopath practicing outside the United States who does not meet the requirements for Regular membership. The surgeon must have completed a minimum of 25 bariatric surgeries as the primary surgeon within the last two years. The applicant is required to submit either one letter of recommendation from a Regular or Senior (previously Regular) member OR two letters of recommendation including one letter from an International Member and one letter from the Chief Administrator of the applicant’s primary hospital in support of the application. Candidate Member Free
A Candidate Member is in training with the intention of specializing in Bariatric Surgery. Candidate members are encouraged to reapply for full ASMBS membership upon completion of training. Fill out the Candidate Application online AND have your Program Director complete the online recommendation for Candidate applicants.

$325 Dues for Affiliate Surgeon must be current before applying to upgrade at Regular Member Status
Membership applications may take up to 6-8 weeks for review and approval. Incomplete applications will delay the approval process. COMPLETE applications must be submitted at least 30 days prior to any ASMBS conference.
