Texas | Sleeve Gastrectomy
I have been overweight since childhood. I can still remember going to Sears and getting the Husky brand jeans at the start of elementary school.
I reached a peak weight of 375lbs in 2012 and realized that my life was only going to go downhill if I didn’t make a major change.
While on a cruise in June 2012, I was sitting on the bed and looked over at my reflection in the mirror. I was wearing a white T-shirt and my first thought was, “I look like a big bag of garbage.” When I saw my reflection, I felt like I was wearing a fat-suit that I couldn’t take off. I knew that was not the real me!
After the cruise, I began seriously researching WLS and whether it was right for me. In October 2012 I made my first attempt to commit to WLS, but backed out before even calling my insurance company. I thought I would give will power, diet and exercise one more try. By November, I was back to my old eating habits and realized that I needed the help WLS would provide.
I firmly committed to doing whatever it took to be a successful WLS patient. I contacted my insurance company for their WLS requirements, researched the insurance approved doctors and made my choice. I had my initial consult with the WLS doctor on Dec. 7, 2012 and was Sleeved and released from the hospital on Dec. 28, 2012. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.
