Under Construction: Materials are being added to each of the toolkit sections, please continue to check back in to find new resources.
These materials are presented by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, primarily the Integrated Health section of the Society, regarding the surgical treatment for obesity or metabolic disease. The documents presented are based on current clinical experience and medical evidence available at this time. The materials are not definitive, and are not the recommendations of the Society. The documents and their contents are not intended as, and cannot not be construed as, stating or establishing a local, regional, or national standard of care.
Standard equipment and supplies will prove inadequate when treating patients with obesity. A variety of specialized equipment, supplies, and accommodations are needed to deliver a safe and comfortable experience for patients pursing and undergoing bariatric surgery. In addition to minimizing safety concerns, appropriate equipment and supplies can reduce negative and stigmatizing experiences for patients and convey a sense of respect. In this section, you will find and explanation of the range of materials necessary to adequately equip your facility to meet standards of care. A list of necessary resources is included, with examples of various types of these resources.
