The Pharmacy section contains information that healthcare staff involved in the care of the bariatric surgery patient should know regarding perioperative management of medications.  Hospital staff responsible for administering medications immediately after surgery should be educated on which of the patient’s medications will be resumed, when they will be resumed, and how to administer those medications.  Staff with direct patient contact should be aware of any medication changes made, either immediately prior to or postoperatively, and why changes were made to the patient’s home regimen as well as which routine discharge scripts will be provided (i.e. for pain, nausea/vomiting).
