The field of metabolic and bariatric surgery and obesity is a dynamic discipline that is growing in its body of knowledge Therefore, staying educated on best practice, the latest research and developments within the field are necessary to keep you and your program at its best.

In 2013 ASMBS and The Obesity Society (TOS) partnered to organize ObesityWeek. This week-long conference offers a wide array of options for continued education from the top names in the field of metabolic and bariatric surgery. ASMBS organizes pre-conference courses, forums, and networking events for both physicians and integrated health professionals.

ASMBS Weekend, also called the Spring Educational Event and Obesity Week-End, is an annual ASMBS event for educational and business activities. The 2015 event featured courses such as “The Best Kept Secrets in Bariatric Surgery,” lunches with experts on topics like weight regain and managing foregut issues, and offered up to 22.5 CE contact hours for nurses. This is a scaled-down version of ObesityWeek, but it is of value to professionals looking for learning opportunities.

In addition, ASMBS arranges to film select sessions at its events and place the videos online. Viewers have the option to register to take a post-test and earn CME credits. Watch these videos and learn more about bariatric surgery on the ASMBS Education Portal.

As an ASMBS member you can access SOARD, the Society’s official journal at a discounted rate. Each journal features two articles that you can access online at no cost and complete a post-test to earn CME credits. Also online is the Bariatric Movie and Images (BMI) Library that has a growing number of videos that offer CME credit.

Many states and areas of the country have established local chapters.
